The tenth volume of the twelve-volume "History of Ukrainian Literature" has been published by the Publishing House "Akademperiodika" of the NAS of Ukraine. It covers the literary process of the 1920s–1930s. The book was prepared at the Taras Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the NAS of Ukraine.
The period of the 1920s–1930s in the intellectual history of Ukraine is known as the Executed Renaissance (or the Red Renaissance). During this period, Ukrainian literature, despite the ideological influence of the Soviet system, was represented by a generation of many talented artists whose works became iconic in national culture, initiating new paths of development and a new tradition. This literature developed under the sign of modernism, becoming a representative of the national model of a civilizational European phenomenon, a distinctive aesthetic code of the modernity of the Ukrainian nation throughout the 20th century.
The work consists of three large thematic parts: "Development of Literary Modernism in the Era of the 'Red Renaissance'" (1920s); "'Blocked' Literature of the 1930s"; "Western Ukrainian and Emigrant Literatures (1920s–1930s)." A separate section is devoted to translation and genre literature, which relates to all the previous thematic parts. The edition concludes with a "Chronicle of Events" and a "Name Index."
The overview sections specifically and historically illuminate the further development of modernism as an artistic direction, its main stylistic tendencies/streams amid the emergence and gradual dominance of ideologically tendentious (socialist realist) literature. The historical and cultural circumstances of the literary process at that time are examined, including the development of poetry, prose, drama, film drama, literary translation, literature for children and youth, satire, and humor; combining historical, genre-stylistic, problem-thematic characteristics with cultural, biographical, and contextual ones. The lives and works of Pavlo Tychyna, Maksym Rylsky, Yevhen Pluzhnyk, Mykola Khvylovy, Yurii Yanovsky, Valerian Pidmohylny, Mykola Kulish, Mykola Zerov, Bohdan-Ihor Antonych, Yevhen Malaniuk, Yurii Lypa, Ulas Samchuk, and Natalena Koroleva are presented in a portrait format.

This publication will become a new important stage in the development of literary studies discourse in the modern academic field, particularly due to the introduction into scientific circulation of many names, facts, and literary works that were artificially removed or falsified during Soviet times; the clarification and scientific rethinking of many literary works in the context of modern historiography and the development of literary studies.
