In Memory of the Employees of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Who Were Killed as a Result of Russian Aggression or Went Missing While Defending Ukraine

Lead engineer at the O.Ya. Usikov Institute of Radiophysics and Electronics of the NAS of Ukraine, specialist in IT engineering, system network administration, and telecommunications.

Born in Kharkiv. After graduating from Kharkiv National University of Radioelectronics in 2010, he began working at the O.Ya. Usikov Institute of Radiophysics and Electronics of the NAS of Ukraine. He ensured the operation of the institution's critically important information infrastructure, was responsible for system network administration, configuring electronic databases, and specialized software. Colleagues knew him as a highly qualified specialist, a responsible and reliable employee who was deservedly respected by the team.

On October 27, 2022, Serhiy Barchan was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He died on March 11, 2023, while carrying out a combat mission to defend Ukraine.

Chief Engineer of the Department of Hydrogen Materials Science and Carbon Nanostructures at the I.M. Frantsevich Institute for Problems of Materials Science of the NAS of Ukraine.

He devoted over half a century to working at the Institute. He began his career in 1971 as a 6th-grade turner, and later became the chief engineer of the Department of Hydrogen Materials Science and Carbon Nanostructures. Many years of diligent work, high professionalism, and dedication to his work earned him the well-deserved respect of his colleagues.

At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he remained in his home in Irpin. During the Russian occupation, the city was under continuous shelling. Around March 20, 2022, Volodymyr Behenyov died after a stroke that occurred under occupation conditions without the possibility of receiving medical assistance. His house and the surrounding buildings were damaged as a result of Russian shelling.

Candidate of Technical Sciences, research fellow of the Department of Statistical Dynamics and Dynamics of Multidimensional Mechanical Systems at the Institute of Technical Mechanics of the NAS of Ukraine.

Since 2014, he worked at the Institute of Technical Mechanics of the NAS of Ukraine, conducting scientific research in the field of mechanics and dynamics of complex mechanical systems.

Russian aggression took the life of Nazar Bezrukavy in 2022.

Lead process engineer at the V. Ye. Lashkaryov Institute of Semiconductor Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Died on December 30, 2023.

Lead engineer of the biomedical chemistry department at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the NAS of Ukraine, senior soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Born in Pryluky, Chernihiv region. After graduating from the National Aviation University, he worked as an engineer, and since 2013 – at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the NAS of Ukraine. He was a PhD candidate, completed his dissertation, and was preparing for its defense.

Vasyl Vdovin participated in the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity. In 2014-2015, he served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, fought in the anti-terrorist operation zone in Donetsk region. After the start of the full-scale invasion, he again joined the military ranks. He served in the 2nd mortar battery of the 2nd mechanized battalion of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Black Zaporozhians, participated in the battles for Kyiv, the liberation of Irpin and Borodyanka, and the battles on the Svitlodarsk arc.

On July 23, 2022, he died while performing a combat mission in the village of Novoluhanske, Bakhmut district, Donetsk region. Posthumously awarded the Order "For Courage" III degree.

Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Senior Researcher at the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics of the NAS of Ukraine.

Scientific research was devoted to the existence and qualitative properties of solutions of nonlinear elliptic equations.

In March 2022, during the hostilities in Mariupol, Mykhailo Voitovych went missing.

An employee of the Scientific and Technological Complex "Institute of Single Crystals" of the NAS of Ukraine, a specialist in single crystal growth, a serviceman of the National Guard of Ukraine.

Born in Kharkiv. After graduating, since 2015 he worked in the department of implementation of scientific and technical developments at the STC "Institute of Single Crystals," where he was engaged in growing single crystals, continuing his father's work. Colleagues remember him as a sincere, responsible, and dedicated person.

On the first day of the full-scale Russian invasion, Ihor Halkin voluntarily went to the military commissariat together with his father and brother. The very next day, he joined the ranks of the 5th Slobozhanska Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. He participated in battles for the Kharkiv region, in the liberation of Balakliia and Izium, and was awarded for the liberation of Balakliia. He was wounded twice but returned to the front each time after treatment. On May 3, 2023, he died during a combat mission near the city of Kreminna in the Luhansk region, just a few months short of his 30th birthday. For personal courage and bravery, he was posthumously nominated for the Order "For Courage".

Lead engineer at the Institute of Technical Thermophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, officer of the 242nd Separate Territorial Defense Battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Graduated with honors from the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute," earning a master's degree in "Thermal Power Engineering." In 2020, he completed training at the military department and received the rank of junior lieutenant in reserve. Since 2018, he worked at the Institute of Technical Thermophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where he held the position of lead engineer.

On the eve of the full-scale invasion, he signed a contract with the Territorial Defense Forces and from the first days of the war took part in the defense of Ukraine. He participated in the defense of the Kyiv region and later carried out combat missions in the Kharkiv direction. He served as an officer of the planning group of the headquarters of the 242nd Separate Territorial Defense Battalion.

On June 10, 2023, Volodymyr Demchenko died in Kharkiv while performing military duty. For his service, he was awarded the medals "For the Defense of the Hero City Kharkiv," "For Faithful Service" III degree, and the distinction "For Courage."

Ethnologist, former scientific secretary of the M. T. Rylsky Institute of Art Studies, Folklore and Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, junior sergeant of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Born in the village of Orlivka in Vinnytsia region. Graduated from the Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi Vinnytsia State Pedagogical University, studied in the postgraduate program at the M. T. Rylsky Institute of Art Studies, Folklore and Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, specializing in "Ethnology." Worked as the scientific secretary of the Institute, later as the head of the Museum-Archive of Folk Culture of Ukrainian Polissya at the State Scientific Center for the Protection of Cultural Heritage from Technogenic Disasters.

In 2015-2016, he defended Ukraine in the area of the anti-terrorist operation. With the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, he again joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Served as a junior sergeant of the separate center of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, with the call sign "Prof."

On June 7, 2023, Serhiy Dovhan died near the village of Sadky in Sumy region during the execution of a combat mission. For courage and selfless service, he was awarded state and military honors, including posthumously awarded the Order "For Courage" III degree.

On April 27, 2022, Volodymyr Domnich died after being caught in a Russian shelling in the village of Cherkaska Lozova in the Kharkiv region.

Junior Researcher at the National Science Center "Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology," specialist in plasma physics and controlled thermonuclear fusion.

After graduating from the Department of Plasma Physics at V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University in 2007, he began working at the Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology. He worked in the plasma diagnostics laboratory, conducting experimental research on the creation and heating of high-temperature plasma on the "Uragan" stellarators, diagnosing microwave plasma of the "Uragan-3M" and "Uragan-2M" devices. He participated in the international EUROfusion program. In 2018, he entered the postgraduate program at NSC "KhFTI" and was preparing to defend his PhD thesis, scheduled for autumn 2022.

On July 17, 2022, Mykola Zamanov died during evacuation from the village of Pechenihy in the Kharkiv region when the vehicle came under Russian fire.

Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, professor, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, long-time head of the department and deputy director of the V. Ye. Lashkaryov Institute of Semiconductor Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology. For over forty years, his scientific activity was associated with the Institute of Semiconductor Physics. Vasyl Kladko was one of the leading Ukrainian specialists in the field of semiconductor physics, X-ray diffractometry, and structural diagnostics of real crystals. His research laid important foundations for the development of methods for analyzing semiconductor nanostructures and made a significant contribution to the development of modern materials science and microelectronics. As a scientist, he also paid much attention to the issues of restoring Ukraine's electronic industry and developing domestic high technologies. On March 13, 2022, Vasyl Kladko was shot by Russian occupiers in Vorzel. He came there to evacuate his family. His wife and grandchildren managed to escape, but the scientist himself was killed by Russian military forces.

Candidate of Political Sciences, Senior Research Fellow at the I. F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnonational Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

In 2002, he graduated with honors from Donetsk National University with a degree in Political Science, and also obtained education in the fields of Enterprise Economics and Law. Since then, his professional activity has been associated with the I. F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnonational Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where he studied in graduate school, earned the degree of Candidate of Political Sciences, worked as a junior and senior research fellow, head of the Center for Information and Technological Support of Scientific Work, and head of graduate studies. He was the executive secretary of the scientific journal "Modern Ukrainian Politics," taught the course "Internet and Politics," and completed internships in Poland and Lithuania. His scientific research was dedicated to political communication, the information society, information security, and political processes.

In 2023, Vladyslav Kovalevskyi took up the defense of Ukraine. During the hostilities near Bakhmut, he went missing in action.

Chief bibliographer of the Shevchenko Studies Department at the Taras Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, specialist in scientific bibliography and Shevchenko studies.

He worked for a long time at the National Parliamentary Library of Ukraine, and since 2002 – at the Taras Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He was one of the leading specialists in scientific bibliography, actively participated in the preparation of the six-volume "Shevchenko Encyclopedia," providing bibliographic support for the publication and assisting researchers in their scientific inquiries. He compiled scientific reference indexes "Philological Sciences in Ukraine," constantly worked on Shevchenko studies bibliography, prepared bibliographic materials for anniversary editions, and generously shared his work with colleagues and libraries.

On March 12, 2022, Oleg Kozak died along with his minor son Yaroslav during the evacuation from the occupied village of Berezivka, Bucha district, Kyiv region.

Candidate of Biological Sciences, Senior Researcher at the Carpathian Ecology Institute of the NAS of Ukraine, specialist in the field of ecology, chemistry, and biochemistry of soils. After graduating from the Faculty of Biology of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv in 1993, he dedicated his life to the Carpathian Ecology Institute of the NAS of Ukraine. Here he progressed from postgraduate student to senior researcher, and in 2002 defended his candidate dissertation. The main directions of his scientific activity were the study of soil chemistry and biochemistry, biogeochemical cycling of macro- and microelements in the ecosystems of the Ukrainian Carpathians. Colleagues knew Volodymyr Kozlovskyi as a talented scientist, extremely hardworking, principled and kind person, a reliable colleague, and a true patriot. With the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, he voluntarily took up the defense of Ukraine. He served on the front line, carrying out combat missions in the most dangerous areas of the front. He died on June 19, 2023, as a result of tank shelling of Ukrainian positions near the city of Kreminna in Luhansk region.

Lead software engineer at the Institute of Software Systems of the NAS of Ukraine.

In 1994, he began working at the Institute of Software Systems of the NAS of Ukraine. Over more than three decades, he progressed from a Category II engineer to a lead software engineer. He participated in the development of network software, working on analysis, design, programming, testing, implementation, and maintenance of complex computer systems.

On the night of July 2, 2026, Serhiy Kolisnyk died as a result of a massive Russian shelling of Kyiv.

Candidate of Chemical Sciences, research associate at the O.O. Chuiko Institute of Surface Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

He combined scientific activity with teaching work, also working at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. As a scientist, he specialized in the field of quantum chemistry and chemical physics of nanosystems. Together with colleagues, he developed affordable hemostatic agents for stopping bleeding, which by the end of March 2022 began to be delivered to Ukrainian hospitals and save the lives of the wounded.

A true patriot of Ukraine, Andriy Kravchenko volunteered to defend the state as early as 2014. During the battles for Debaltseve, despite shrapnel wounds and concussion, he continued to adjust the fire of Ukrainian artillery, ensuring the exit of comrades from encirclement. For this feat, he was awarded the title of People's Hero of Ukraine. With the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, he again joined the ranks of defenders. He died on April 3, 2022, while performing a combat mission near the village of Hoholiv in the Kyiv region.

Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Mathematics, junior researcher at the H. V. Karpenko Physico-Mechanical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Born in the city of Stryi, Lviv region. Graduated from the National University "Lviv Polytechnic" with a degree in "Mathematical and Computer Modeling." In 2023, he defended his dissertation on "Cross-spectral analysis of periodically non-stationary random processes" and obtained a PhD in Applied Mathematics. He was the author and co-author of 19 scientific papers. At the H. V. Karpenko Physico-Mechanical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, he progressed from engineer to junior researcher, and also worked as a senior lecturer at the Software Department of the National University "Lviv Polytechnic."

After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, he engaged in volunteer activities, and in September 2025 was drafted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served as an operator of unmanned aerial vehicles in the strike aviation complexes company.

On June 24, 2026, Pavlo Kurapov died while performing a combat mission near the village of Semerenky, Sumy region.

Head of the Material and Technical Supply Department of the Institute of Electrodynamics of the NAS of Ukraine.

Since 2018, he worked at the Institute, where he was responsible for the material and technical support of the institution, contributed to its uninterrupted operation, and diligently fulfilled his professional duties.

In March 2022, Dmytro Lebedkin was shot by Russian soldiers in occupied Irpin.

An employee of the M.M. Bogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, junior lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, commander of the rifle company platoon "Black Raven".

After graduating from the National Aviation University, he worked at the M.M. Bogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, was an active member of the volunteer group "Physicists-Lyricists". Later, he worked as a developer at the Marseille Center for Particle Physics (CPPM, France).

After the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2014, he underwent military training, worked as a paramedic in the combat zone in Donetsk region. In March 2022, he returned from France to Ukraine and voluntarily joined the 241st Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. His call sign was "Blade", and he commanded the first platoon of the rifle company "Black Raven".

On July 12, 2022, while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Dementiivka in the Kharkiv region, his unit was ambushed by the enemy. Andriy was the first to detect the enemy and at the cost of his own life ensured the retreat of his comrades. For his displayed courage, he was posthumously awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky III degree.

PhD student at the Institute of Geological Sciences of the NAS of Ukraine, specialist in the field of oil and gas geology, lithology, and stratigraphy.

Since 2021, he has been a PhD student at the Institute of Geological Sciences of the NAS of Ukraine, while also working at the National University "Poltava Polytechnic named after Yuri Kondratyuk." He dedicated his scientific research to the study of lithology, stratigraphy, paleogeography, patterns of hydrocarbon deposit formation, and sedimentation processes in the Eastern oil and gas-bearing region of Ukraine. Over many years, he gained significant practical experience in geological exploration, working on substantiating prospective areas for oil and gas exploration in the Dnipro-Donetsk depression. His scientific results were of great importance for the development of geological science and the oil and gas industry of Ukraine.

After the start of the full-scale Russian aggression, Volodymyr Makohon took up the defense of Ukraine. He died on December 6, 2022, while fulfilling his military duty.

Candidate of Technical Sciences, Senior Researcher of the Department of Reliability and Dynamic Strength at the A.M. Pidgorny Institute for Mechanical Engineering Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Associate Professor of the Department of Physics of Non-Traditional Energy Technologies and Ecology at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.

On March 4, 2022, Kostyantyn Myahkokhlib was killed in Kharkiv as a result of shelling of the city by the Russian army.

Worked as an engineer at the V. M. Bakul Institute for Superhard Materials of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine until 2015. Since 2014, he defended Ukraine. After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, he voluntarily went to the territorial recruitment center and was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served as a captain, an officer in the department for supporting innovative projects in the development of weapons and military equipment of the Innovation Activity Directorate of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He continuously improved his military training and mastered new types of weapons and military equipment.

On October 2, 2024, Yevhenii Naidiuk died while serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Junior Research Fellow at the National Scientific Center "Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology," specialist in plasma physics and solid-state physics.

He worked in the laboratory of diamond and diamond-like coatings, conducting experimental research aimed at improving the surface properties of materials. His scientific work was related to the application of vacuum arc coating technologies to impart new functional properties to materials. Colleagues valued Artur Omarov for his professionalism, responsibility, kindness, and sincere willingness to support others. He left a legacy as a person who inspired those around him with his energy, optimism, and dedication to his work.

In May 2022, Artur Omarov was drafted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On June 7, 2023, he died from wounds sustained while performing combat missions.

Chief Engineer of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the NAS of Ukraine.

He was responsible for the technical support of the Institute's work, diligently fulfilled his professional duties, and was respected by his colleagues.

On March 1, 2022, Maksym Pavlenko died in battles near Kyiv, defending Ukraine from Russian aggression.

Lead engineer at the Institute of Scintillation Materials of the NAS of Ukraine, captain, commander of a fire support platoon of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Born in Kharkiv. Graduated from the National Aerospace University named after M.E. Zhukovsky "Kharkiv Aviation Institute" with a degree in "mechanical engineer." Since 2010, he worked at the Institute of Scintillation Materials of the NAS of Ukraine, where he was involved in the implementation of plastic scintillator production technologies. He repeatedly interrupted his scientific activities for military service: from 2015 to 2017 he was mobilized to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, after which he returned to the Institute, and since 2020 he again joined the ranks of the Ukrainian army. Colleagues remember him as a responsible, balanced, and principled officer, for whom the most important thing was preserving the lives of his comrades.

As part of the territorial defense forces, Andriy Paloha defended the Sumy region, and later fought on the Donetsk front, commanding a fire support platoon. He died on March 22, 2024, during an enemy artillery shelling near the village of Terny, Kramatorsk district, Donetsk region. After the battle, he was considered missing for some time, and later his death was confirmed.

Candidate of Legal Sciences, research fellow at the V.M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, lawyer, associate professor at the National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy," one of the leading Ukrainian specialists in the field of agrarian and land law.

After graduating from the Faculty of Law, he entered the postgraduate program at the V.M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where in 1999 he defended his candidate dissertation. He combined scientific work with legal practice, legislative and expert activities, and taught at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. He was the author of over 70 scientific works, was among the most authoritative Ukrainian lawyers in the field of agrarian law, consulted international organizations and government institutions, and actively participated in the development of land reform and the improvement of legislation.

On February 24, 2022, he voluntarily took up the defense of the state. He fought in territorial defense units, participated in the defense of Kyiv, Kyiv region, Kharkiv region, Donetsk region, and Luhansk region. Even at the front, he did not abandon scientific work and continued to work on professional publications. He died on April 19, 2023, while performing a combat mission near the village of Dibrova in Luhansk region.

Deputy Chief Engineer of the Research Complex "Accelerator-Nuclear Systems" at the National Scientific Center "Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology." Born and raised in Kharkiv. He linked his professional activity with the National Scientific Center "Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology," where he worked in the Research Complex "Accelerator-Nuclear Systems," holding the position of Deputy Chief Engineer. From the first months of the full-scale Russian invasion, he took up the defense of Ukraine. He served in the military, carrying out combat missions as part of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. On July 1, 2026, Vadym Stomin died in the Sumy region as a result of a strike by a Russian FPV drone while performing a combat mission.

Employee of the A. M. Pidgorny Institute of Energy Machines and Systems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Worked as a security guard at the A. M. Pidgorny Institute of Energy Machines and Systems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. For many years, he diligently fulfilled his duties, was a responsible and reliable member of the team, and was respected by colleagues.

On August 30, 2024, Borys Mykolayovych died in his own home as a result of a Russian missile strike on Kharkiv. His life was cut short by another attack of the Russian army on a peaceful Ukrainian city.

An employee of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, a radio telegraph operator of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

He was born in Boyarka, Kyiv region. He graduated from the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts with a degree in "Book Studies, Librarianship, and Bibliography." Since 2010, he worked in the comprehensive reprography department of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine. Colleagues knew him as a responsible, erudite, and sincere specialist who deeply loved books, history, and culture, was always ready to help, and was respected by the team.

On June 17, 2024, Artem Toropov was drafted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served as a radio telegraph operator in the 152nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, where his call sign was "Librarian." He died on October 23, 2024, while carrying out a combat mission near Selydove in Donetsk region. For some time, he was considered missing in action, and his death was confirmed after a DNA examination. He is buried in the Alley of Heroes at the city cemetery in Boyarka.

Research fellow at the Institute of Physics of the NAS of Ukraine, specialist in the field of computer vision, artificial intelligence, and analysis of biological systems.

Born in Mykolaiv. After graduating from the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute," he connected his professional activity with academic science. Since 2013, he worked at the Institute of Applied Problems of Physics and Biophysics of the NAS of Ukraine, and later at the Institute of Physics of the NAS of Ukraine. His scientific research was devoted to the development of software, methods of computer vision, artificial intelligence, and analysis of biological objects. Volodymyr Fedorov participated in the creation of a device for the early detection of skin neoplasms and became a co-author of a patent for a method of processing and analyzing images of biological objects.

On March 10, 2022, he voluntarily took up the defense of Ukraine. He served as a combat medic of the 71st Separate Jaeger Brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the call sign "Scalpel," saving, stabilizing, and evacuating wounded comrades from the battlefield. On March 15, 2023, he died during a battle near Avdiivka while fulfilling his military duty.

Candidate of Biological Sciences, research fellow at the O.O. Bogomolets Institute of Physiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, a talented researcher of ion channels of cell membranes, lecturer at the National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy," head of the Council of Young Scientists of the Institute.

Born in Dushanbe, and has lived in Kyiv since the age of five. As a student, he became passionate about scientific work and began research at the O.O. Bogomolets Institute of Physiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. His scientific interests covered the physiology and biophysics of ion channels, and the research results were published in international scientific journals. In 2019, he defended his candidate dissertation, taught at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, received a grant from the Biophysical Society of the USA, and actively popularized science. He was one of the founders of a biotechnology company that developed a Ukrainian PCR test system for detecting COVID-19 in 2020.

An active participant in the Revolution of Dignity, in 2014 he voluntarily joined the ranks of the "Aidar" battalion. From the first days of the full-scale Russian invasion, he took up arms again, fought as part of the 112th Territorial Defense Brigade, participated in the defense and liberation of Kyiv region, and battles for Izium. On April 13, 2022, he died while carrying out a combat mission in the Kharkiv region. After a long time being considered missing, his death was confirmed, and on March 20, 2023, Bizhan Sharopov was buried in the Alley of Glory at Lukyanivske Cemetery in Kyiv. In 2023, he was posthumously awarded the title Hero of Ukraine for personal courage and heroism shown in the defense of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Doctor of Biological Sciences, professor, longtime head of the department at the Institute of Hydrobiology of the NAS of Ukraine.

She devoted her entire professional life to the development of hydrobiology. After graduating from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, she worked at the Institute of Hydrobiology of the NAS of Ukraine, where she progressed from laboratory assistant to head of the department. Her scientific research was dedicated to the ecology of aquatic ecosystems, and among the significant practical results was the development of methods to combat Dreissena in irrigation systems. Since 2014, she taught at the National University of "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy." Colleagues and students remember her as a wise, kind person, a talented scientist and mentor who sincerely loved her work.

On January 2, 2024, Lyudmyla Shevtsova died in her own apartment in Kyiv as a result of a Russian missile strike.

Chief engineer of the sector for operation and modernization of electrostatic accelerators at the Institute of Applied Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, a specialist in accelerator technology.

Born in Sumy. After graduating from the Department of Experimental and Theoretical Physics, he began working at the Institute of Applied Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where he advanced to chief engineer of the sector, and from 2016 to 2020 studied in postgraduate school. He led a group of specialists who ensured the operation of the Analytical Accelerator Complex of the Institute, was responsible for its safe operation, modernization, and personnel training. In the spring of 2022, during the encirclement of Sumy, it was thanks to his professionalism that the unique accelerator complex was kept operational.

In July 2023, Ruslan Shulipa was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He died on December 30, 2023, while performing a combat mission. Colleagues remember him as a highly qualified specialist, a responsible, kind, and sincere person who enjoyed well-deserved respect from the team.
