With deep sorrow and pain, we announce that while defending Ukraine, Pavlo Kurapov, PhD in Applied Mathematics, junior research fellow at the G. V. Karpenko Physico-Mechanical Institute of the NAS of Ukraine (Lviv), was killed.
Pavlo Rostyslavovych Kurapov was born on August 1, 1994, in the city of Stryi, Lviv region.
His path was marked by perseverance, talent, and love for science. Pavlo graduated with honors from Gymnasium No. 10 and earned a master's degree at the National University "Lviv Polytechnic" in the specialty "Mathematical and Computer Modeling."
On July 11, 2023, he defended his dissertation on the topic "Mutual Spectral Analysis of Periodically Non-Stationary Random Processes" and obtained the scientific degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Mathematics. Our colleague was the author and co-author of 19 scientific papers published in international journals and conference materials. His research contributed to the development of Ukrainian science.
Working at the G. V. Karpenko Physico-Mechanical Institute of the NAS of Ukraine, Pavlo advanced from engineer to junior research fellow, establishing himself as a talented researcher and dedicated scientist. Later, as a senior lecturer at the Software Department of the National University "Lviv Polytechnic," he generously shared his knowledge with students, inspiring them by his example of perseverance and love for science.
After the full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine began, Pavlo did not remain indifferent – he helped Ukrainian defenders and engaged in volunteer activities. In September 2025, he was drafted into military service and became an operator of unmanned aerial vehicles in the strike aviation complexes company.
On June 24, 2026, the Hero's life was cut short while performing a combat mission near the village of Semerenky, Sumy region. His mother was left without her only son.
For relatives and friends, Pavlo will forever remain a bright person – a kind, sensitive, and optimistic man who loved fishing on the Stryi River, chess, art, and sincere conversations. His name will remain among the Heroes who gave their lives for the Independence of Ukraine.
