On December 26, 2025, the Institute of Biochemistry named after O.V. Palladin of the NAS of Ukraine held the next meeting of the general academic interdisciplinary seminar in the field of natural sciences "Topical Issues of Physico-Chemical and Mathematical Biology". The general director of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, professor of the Department of Sociology at the National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy," Doctor of Philosophical Sciences Volodymyr Paniotto gave an interdisciplinary report titled "Modeling Social Processes and Natural Sciences: Similarity of Mathematical Apparatus or Similarity of Processes?".

In his opening remarks, the seminar leader, Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the Institute of Biochemistry named after O.V. Palladin of the NAS of Ukraine, Head of the Muscle Biochemistry Department of this Institute, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Serhii Kosterin reminded those present that the focus of the interdisciplinary general academic seminar includes scientific problems at the intersection of natural and humanitarian sciences, particularly sociology, and that Professor Volodymyr Paniotto is a well-known expert in the methodology of sociological research. The department had two groups: one focused on robotics, the other on sociology.

The speaker then focused on the following issues:

  • modeling to explain social processes;
  • happiness as the ratio of satisfaction of needs to the level of aspirations;
  • Khmelko's theory on the change of dominant ways of life production;
  • model of Ukraine;
  • model of reproduction of the social structure of Kyiv and changes in value orientations;
  • sympathies as a mechanism of value change;
  • life cycle and S-shaped curve;
  • "predator-prey" model;
  • arms race model;
  • agent-based modeling.

Questions to the speaker and discussion of the report were made by:

  • Director of the Main Astronomical Observatory of the NAS of Ukraine, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Yaroslav Yatskiv;
  • seminar leader, Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the Institute of Biochemistry named after O.V. Palladin of the NAS of Ukraine, Head of the Muscle Biochemistry Department of this Institute, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Serhii Kosterin;
  • leading researcher of the Muscle Biochemistry Department of the Institute of Biochemistry named after O.V. Palladin of the NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Biological Sciences Lidiia Babich;
