"Girls are often prone to perfectionism, but science is a territory of mistakes. Allow yourself to be imperfect. Don’t be afraid to seem 'not smart enough' or to ask 'stupid' questions. In science, there are no dead ends, only data that help find the right path. See science not as an exam, but as a great adventure. Find your people: surround yourself with those who support you, find mentors, read stories of women who have already walked this path. You will see that you are not alone, and this path is quite real," assures Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Iryna Denega, leading research fellow at the Institute of Mathematics of the NAS of Ukraine.
In her opinion, not only work but timely rest is important. For a person working intellectually, breaks bring freshness of perspective, and therefore – creativity and productivity. Yes, during the war this can be difficult, sometimes impossible. Nevertheless, don’t forget to be kind and attentive to yourself. Your body and mind will thank you.
"My greatest achievement to date, I consider receiving the President of Ukraine’s Award for Young Scientists in 2022," recalls the scientist. "For me, this is not just a state award or confirmation of the scientific value of my research. It is a symbol of resilience. The year 2022 was a test for every Ukrainian, and for science in particular. Receiving such recognition at that time was extremely important – it proved that despite the war, Ukrainian science lives, develops, and has a future. This award reminds me that persistence always bears fruit, and intellectual work is our contribution to building a strong and modern Ukraine."
