Every year on February 11, the global scientific community celebrates the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, established by a UN General Assembly resolution to ensure equal access to scientific knowledge and technological progress. On the occasion of this date, the Council of Young Scientists of the Institute of Mathematics of the NAS of Ukraine is implementing a major project "Her Scientific Story". The initiative is aimed at deeply highlighting the role of women in the development of fundamental and applied scientific research and is extremely important for popularizing the exact sciences in Ukraine.
The project is a multi-component platform for dialogue between generations of researchers. Over several weeks, a series of publications consisting of visual posters and exclusive interviews will be published on the website of the Council of Young Scientists of the Institute of Mathematics of the NAS of Ukraine. Each material will present a separate success story, where through the prism of personal experience, the professional challenges and intellectual achievements of leading female scientists are revealed. This approach allows abstract scientific achievements to be transformed into concrete and understandable role models capable of inspiring students and young female researchers to actively participate in the life of the academic community.
The project "Her Scientific Story" goes far beyond celebratory events. It is an important tool for humanizing mathematical science, demonstrating to society the intellectual power of Ukrainian women and helping to overcome stereotypes regarding professional realization in STEM fields. Highlighting real stories helps form a positive image of a scientific career and creates a favorable environment for the development of the scientific potential of our country.
The culminating moment will be an online meeting to be held on February 11, 2026. This event will bring together the heroines of the project and a wide audience for informal communication, professional exchange of experience, and joint discussion of the prospects for the development of modern science.
The Institute of Mathematics of the NAS of Ukraine invites all interested parties to follow updates and get acquainted with the stories of the project participants. The first publications are already available for free access.
