NAS of Ukraine scholarships for young scientists

Scholarships of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for young scientists are awarded with the aim of supporting scientific activities and creating conditions to motivate talented young scientists who conduct promising scientific research on the most important problems of natural, technical, social, and humanitarian sciences. According to the resolution of the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine dated 13.04.1994 No. 137 "On scholarships for young scientists of the NAS of Ukraine" (as amended), 320 monthly scholarships were established, which are awarded by the decision of the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine.

In accordance with the Regulation on scholarships of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for young scientists, approved by the resolution of the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine dated 31.08.2022 No. 259, scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis for a term of up to two years.

Candidates for scholarships may be persons who meet the definition of the term "young scientist" as stated in the Law of Ukraine "On Scientific and Scientific-Technical Activity." In particular, at the time of awarding the scholarship, the age of a young scientist who has higher education of at least the second (master's) level must not exceed 35 years inclusive, and a scientist who holds a doctoral degree must not exceed 40 years inclusive.

Nominations of candidates for scholarships are made by scientific (scientific-technical, technical) councils of the organization at the place of the candidates' main work (study), provided there are written recommendations from at least two doctors of sciences personally familiar with the scientific achievements and abilities of the young scientist.

The competition for scholarships is conducted by the departments of the NAS of Ukraine (for institutions under the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine – the Commission on Work with Scientific Youth of the NAS of Ukraine) within the quotas allocated to them.

Recommendations from the departments of the NAS of Ukraine and the Commission on Work with Scientific Youth of the NAS of Ukraine regarding the awarding of scholarships become effective after their approval by the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine.

The academic council of the organization where the scholarship holder works (studies) conducts an evaluation of their scientific work twice a year and sends a brief report on the results achieved to the relevant department of the NAS of Ukraine or the Commission on Work with Scientific Youth of the NAS of Ukraine.

The amount of the scholarship is established by the resolution of the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine dated 25.09.2019 No. 232 and amounts to 1.8 times the subsistence minimum for able-bodied persons.
