On October 28, 2025, a presentation of the collective scientific monograph “The Geoeconomics of the International Monetary Order: Money and Power in 21st Century” / «Геоекономіка міжнародного валютного порядку: гроші та влада у ХХІ сторіччі» (edited by research professor, Dr. José Carrillo Piña and Doctor of Economics, Professor Oleksandr Sharov), prepared jointly with the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the NAS of Ukraine, took place at the Anahuac Puebla University in Mexico. The monograph was published in late summer by Macmillan Palgrave (part of the international consortium Springer Nature (Switzerland) – the world’s largest scientific literature publisher). The authors are specialists from Ukraine, Mexico, New Zealand, and the USA. Among them are scientists from the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the NAS of Ukraine, who joined the presentation remotely. The event was also attended by representatives of the university administration, professors and students, researchers from various countries, and diplomats.
The event was opened by the Director of the School of Economics and Business at Anahuac Puebla University, Dr. Karla Bayly Castañeda, who made remarks on contextualizing the significance of the book. She emphasized her university’s commitment to scientific research, academic excellence, and the promotion of influential international projects that transcend disciplinary boundaries, presenting the new monograph as a kind of model for how to analyze economics, international business, and geopolitics together. In her greeting, she stressed that in a world of uncertainty, thorough knowledge and collaboration are the most powerful tools for understanding and productive action.
One of the co-authors of the book, Deputy Director for Research at the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the NAS of Ukraine, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, Serhii Korablin, thanked research professor Dr. José Carrillo Piña of the School of Economics and Business at Anahuac Puebla University and Chief Researcher of the International Financial Research Sector of the Public Finance Department at the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Economics, Professor Oleksandr Sharov for their inspiring work and great organizational talent, thanks to which it was possible to initiate and successfully complete this significant international publishing project in an extremely difficult time. He also expressed gratitude to the leadership of Anahuac Puebla University and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, without whose support the long-term efforts of the research team would hardly have achieved their high goal. At the end of his speech, Serhii Korablin noted the importance of the research results obtained and confidence in their further deepening, since on November 26–27, 2025, Anahuac Puebla University and the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the NAS of Ukraine have planned their next joint forum – the second international conference “International Geoeconomic Shift: New Frontiers of Money and Finance” / «Міжнародний геоекономічний зсув: нові рубежі грошей та фінансів»).
The participants were also greeted by diplomats from the countries involved in the project. In particular, the Ambassador of New Zealand to the United Mexican States, Sarah Ireland, noted the universal relevance of the book. She emphasized that for such active and economically open countries as New Zealand, understanding the global reconfiguration of geopolitics, technological changes, and monetary policy is not only an academic task but also a strategic necessity. The diplomat stressed the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to relevant research and highly appreciated the analysis of Ukraine’s monetary policy during the war presented in the book as a crucial lesson for the international community regarding the interaction between money, power, and security.
Ukraine was represented at the event by Advisor to the Embassy of Ukraine in the United Mexican States, Valerii Olefir. His speech concerned the global evolution leading to a multipolar world, structural transformations of the monetary order, and current trends in digitalization, outlining how central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and fintech innovations influence the rethinking of the concept of financial sovereignty. The diplomat concluded his speech with a call for cooperation and knowledge exchange, emphasizing that these are the foundations of a better future, exemplified by the prepared monograph and its presentation event.
The co-editors of the collective monograph shared their experience, emphasizing the value of interdisciplinary dialogue and transnational cooperation as important tools for understanding the complexity of the modern world. Research professor Dr. José Carrillo Piña and his colleague, Doctor of Economics, Professor Oleksandr Sharov, stressed that the monograph project was born in the context of enormous international complexity marked by armed conflicts and global crises that directly affected several authors of the publication. According to foreign partners, their collaboration with colleagues from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine during the war was an extraordinary human and academic experience for them.
“Each chapter of this book is also a testament to resilience. Despite difficulties, Ukrainian researchers continued to write, reflect, and contribute to knowledge. This project demonstrated that science and education are essentially acts of peace and hope,” emphasized research professor Dr. José Carrillo Piña. He stressed that education and research are the foundations of a more just and humane civilization, and international cooperation is a tool for building bridges between peoples, even in times of uncertainty. In his opinion, the publication of this book by a world-renowned and prestigious publisher is a significant achievement both for the researchers and for Anahuac Puebla University, which, as he put it, “continues to strengthen its position as a leading educational institution with international outreach, striving to generate knowledge and scientific exchange of achievements, fostering understanding and transformation of the global environment.”
Doctor of Economics, Professor Oleksandr Sharov expressed hope that the new monograph would contribute to the wide popularization of the scientific findings of Ukrainian specialists in the theory of money and monetary policy, which, unfortunately, are still little known worldwide. However, according to him, Ukraine can be proud of both theoretical concepts and practical achievements. A vivid proof of this is the preservation of macroeconomic stability in our country despite the full-scale war started by Russia. Of course, this was largely made possible thanks to the support provided to Ukraine by its international partners, for which the Ukrainian people are sincerely grateful. As the scientist emphasized, an illustrative example of such support was the international cooperation during the writing of the collective monograph. Above all, this was achieved thanks to the initiative and support of colleagues from Anahuac Puebla University at all stages of the project, as well as the professional team of the Macmillan Palgrave publishing house.
After the authors’ speeches, an academic dialogue took place.
In conclusion, research professor Dr. José Carrillo Piña thanked all participants of the project: “This book analyzes not only the power of money but also the power of knowledge and human cooperation. Education and research remind us that even in difficult times, there is always room to build a better future.”
