On February 3, 2026, the Institute of Chemistry of Functional Materials of the NTK "Institute of Monocrystals" of the NAS of Ukraine held a ceremonial opening of a new medical-biological research laboratory equipped with modern high-tech scientific equipment.
The laboratory is equipped with equipment that allows testing of the latest antimicrobial drugs, conducting molecular-genetic research, including gene expression analysis, sequencing and decoding of genomes, as well as studying antibiotic resistance genes. The equipment includes instruments for microbiological and molecular-genetic research and other specialized scientific equipment.
The laboratory scientists are already conducting research at a high scientific level, including complex microbiological and molecular-genetic work. This is evidenced by their active participation in international scientific projects and grant programs.
The opening of such a modern laboratory will significantly increase the efficiency of comprehensive research aimed at developing new antimicrobial drugs and methods of molecular-genetic diagnostics.
The ceremonial event was attended by leaders and scientists from leading scientific institutions and higher education establishments in the medical-biological field of Kharkiv, representatives of business and the production sector: acting director of the I. I. Mechnikov Institute of Microbiology and Immunology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Valeriy Minukhin, Rector of the National Pharmaceutical University, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Oleksandr Kukhtenko, Rector of Kharkiv National Medical University, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Valeriy Myasoyedov, Director of the Institute of Dermatology and Venereology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Yanina Kutasyevich, representatives of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and other scientists and leaders.
After the opening, there was a discussion on the prospects for further cooperation between science, education, and business.
On the occasion of the opening of the new laboratory, Vice President of the NAS of Ukraine, General Director of the NTK "Institute of Monocrystals" of the NAS of Ukraine, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Volodymyr Seminozhenko noted: "Even in an extremely difficult time for Ukraine, our team consistently works on developing new areas of scientific research and updating the material and technical base. The creation of a state-of-the-art laboratory opens new opportunities for the scientists of the Complex to master topics closely related to modern pharmaceutical technologies, which is especially relevant in the conditions of the recently established Kharkiv Pharmaceutical Cluster."
Director of the Institute of Chemistry of Functional Materials, First Deputy General Director of the NTK "Institute of Monocrystals" of the NAS of Ukraine, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Valentyn Chebanov emphasized that the new laboratory significantly expands the possibilities for conducting interdisciplinary research and developing applied scientific directions related to the development and implementation of new Ukrainian medicinal products into production.
The unique state-of-the-art equipment of the medical-biological research laboratory is an example of effective cooperation between government structures, non-profit organizations, and business in the development of domestic science.
