Today marks the 107th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Ukrainian scientist in the fields of welding, metallurgy, and metal technology, materials science, a talented organizer of science, statesman and public figure, long-time President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, director of the E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute of the NAS of Ukraine, the first Hero of Ukraine, academician Boris Yevhenovych PATON. “Science is my life” – throughout his life, Boris Yevhenovych worked passionately and productively, adhering to this life credo. For decades, he was a leader of progressive Ukrainian technical and scientific thought, making enormous efforts to introduce new knowledge, technologies, and production innovations into all spheres of public life. The name of academician Boris Paton became synonymous with an entire era of advanced scientific discoveries and extraordinary inventions, the most famous of which still captivate today. The organizational talent, life wisdom, vast experience, deep knowledge in many fields, and international authority of academician Boris Paton for many years contributed to the preservation and development of Ukraine’s scientific potential. Boris Yevhenovych, without exaggeration, is a legendary figure. Everyone who had the fortune to personally communicate with this outstanding scientist always noted his fantastic energy and work capacity, sharp mind, extraordinary organization, ability to make the right decision without error, and along with this – openness in communication, deep integrity, and warm humor. Academician Boris Paton left behind a huge cultural and scientific heritage, which the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine carefully preserves and uses to solve many issues of scientific development. The bright memory of Boris Yevhenovych will forever remain in the hearts of colleagues, friends, and all who knew him and worked alongside him. For many generations of scientists, he was and remains a model of dedication to science, creative purposefulness, great work capacity, and service to the Motherland.
