The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine announces a competition for the V.I. Vernadsky Gold Medal of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
With the aim of recognizing scientists for outstanding achievements in the fields of natural, technical, and social-humanitarian sciences, in honor of the first president of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences – the distinguished scientist, academician Volodymyr Ivanovych Vernadsky, and on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the Academy's establishment, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine established the V.I. Vernadsky Gold Medal.
Annually, on the birthday of academician V.I. Vernadsky (March 12), two gold medals are awarded – one to a domestic and one to a foreign scientist.
- The medal is awarded only to individuals personally, both for specific scientific achievements and for a body of scientific work. The same person cannot be awarded the medal more than once.
- The medal is not awarded posthumously, except in cases where the laureate died after the decision to award them was made.
- The competition for the V.I. Vernadsky Gold Medal is open to:
- full members and corresponding members of the NAS of Ukraine regardless of their permanent place of work;
- foreign scientists;
- individuals working in scientific institutions, higher education institutions, enterprises, and organizations located in the territory of Ukraine.
- The right to nominate works for the V.I. Vernadsky Gold Medal is granted to:
- full members, corresponding members, and foreign members of the NAS of Ukraine;
- scientific institutions, higher education institutions, and scientific councils of the NAS of Ukraine;
- scientific and scientific-technical societies, other public associations of scientists;
- scientific-technical (technical) councils of ministries, departments, scientific-production associations, design bureaus, industrial enterprises.
- The right to present candidates for the medal is granted to the departments of the NAS of Ukraine.
- Organizations or individuals who have nominated a candidate for the medal must submit their proposals with justification to the relevant department of the NAS of Ukraine by November 12, 2023, including detailed information about the nominee and their scientific achievements and accomplishments (up to 3 pages). The motivated submission must include:
- A scientific characterization of the works highlighting their significance for the development of science, the national economy, and society (submission of published works, materials of discoveries and inventions is not mandatory).
- Information about the author (surname, first name, patronymic, full date of birth, list of main scientific works, discoveries, inventions, scientific degree, academic title, place of work, position, home address), as well as a color personal photo 9 x 12 cm in electronic and paper form.
- All materials must be submitted in two copies to the address:
