Senior Researcher at the Institute for Nuclear Power Plant Safety Problems of the NAS of Ukraine, Candidate of Biological Sciences Olena Pareniuk spoke at the international F-REI symposium held on November 1-2, 2025, in Fukushima Prefecture (Japan).
In the report "Creating a Shared Vision between Chernobyl and Fukushima: Long-term Cooperation to Ensure Resilience to Nuclear Disasters," she presented Ukrainian scientific experience in the field of nuclear safety. In particular, it addressed the lessons learned by Ukraine during the full-scale war, when Russian aggression created unprecedented threats to nuclear infrastructure facilities, as well as the use of experience from the Fukushima NPP accident aftermath mitigation.
According to Olena Pareniuk, the developments of the Institute for Nuclear Power Plant Safety Problems of the NAS of Ukraine, based on many years of research in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, can become the foundation for the development of the Chernobyl Scientific Hub and international cooperation in the field of nuclear and radiation safety.
