The Council of Young Scientists of the Institute of Mathematics of the NAS of Ukraine is successfully implementing the project "Her Scientific Story," which popularizes the scientific activities of Ukrainian women and forms positive role models for youth. The main task of this initiative is to highlight the professional paths of female researchers, support the principles of gender equality in the academic environment, and build a specialized platform for experience exchange and mutual support. The project aims to create a holistic image of modern Ukrainian science, where the intellectual contribution of women is one of the key drivers of innovative development and international integration. The central event of the project was an online meeting dedicated to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, held on February 11, 2026. The event was attended by 28 participants. The meeting became a platform for informal communication and professional networking in an atmosphere of trust. The participation of male scientists, who congratulated their female colleagues and emphasized the importance of their contribution to the development of modern science, added special significance to the event. This display of solidarity once again confirmed the unity of the scientific community in supporting equal opportunities and recognizing professional achievements regardless of gender.
Within the initiative, young scientists developed informational materials, including individual posters with portraits of participants and their short interviews. In these materials, female scientists openly talk about their motivation and their professional trajectories, which is invaluable for popularizing mathematical education among girls.
To date, the project has united more than 30 female scientists from Kyiv, Poltava, Ternopil, Lviv, Chernivtsi, Sloviansk, Uzhhorod, Ivano-Frankivsk, Dnipro, as well as from Finland, Germany, and Cyprus. Thus, the initiative has gained an international scale and demonstrated the high intellectual mobility of Ukrainian researchers.
The conducted online meeting and the wide coverage of materials confirmed the extraordinary relevance of the project’s topic and the high level of interest from the academic community. The personal stories of the participants became a vivid example of the successful combination of fundamental research with teaching activities and active public life. The formed network of contacts continues to function as a community of like-minded people working to strengthen the positive image of Ukrainian science in the world.
Considering the considerable public resonance and the importance of popularizing STEM disciplines, the organizers decided to continue actively updating the project until May 12, when the International Day of Women in Mathematics is celebrated, and to develop this initiative in the coming years.
