With the aim of supporting young scientists of NAS of Ukraine institutions who have significant scientific results, identifying promising scientific leadership personnel, as well as supporting scientific research aimed at creating new technologies, materials, and other high-tech products, the 2025 competition is announced for obtaining NAS of Ukraine grants by research laboratories/groups of young scientists of the NAS of Ukraine for conducting research in priority areas of science and technology development (hereinafter – grants) for the period 2026-2027.
Priority in the competition is given to works aimed at enhancing the security and defense capability of Ukraine and its restoration during the wartime and post-war periods.
The competition shall be conducted in accordance with the Regulations on NAS of Ukraine grants for research laboratories/groups of young scientists of the NAS of Ukraine for conducting research in priority areas of science and technology development, approved by the resolution of the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine dated 30.05.2018 No. 183 (as amended).
Scientific institutions of the NAS of Ukraine must ensure submission of documents for participation in the competition to the Commission on Work with Young Scientists of the NAS of Ukraine (hereinafter – the Commission) (tel. (044) 2396451, e-mail: nmnasu@gmail.com) by October 31, 2025, as required by the competition conditions.
Conditions for conducting the competition for obtaining NAS of Ukraine grants by research laboratories/groups of young scientists of the NAS of Ukraine for conducting research in priority areas of science and technology development for the period 2026-2027 and requirements for document submission for participation in the competition.
1. Scientific projects of teams of young scientists whose members have higher education of at least the second (master's) level, aged (as of January 1, 2026) up to 35 years inclusive or hold a doctoral degree aged up to 40 years inclusive, are eligible to participate in the competition for obtaining NAS of Ukraine grants by research laboratories/groups of young scientists of the NAS of Ukraine for conducting research in priority areas of science and technology development for the period 2026-2027 (hereinafter – grants).
2. A young scientist may simultaneously participate in no more than two scientific projects funded by grants. Such projects must have different thematic focuses and cannot be related to each other.
3. Project leaders for grant projects must hold a PhD / Candidate of Sciences or Doctor of Sciences degree, have at least two years of experience participating in international or foreign projects and/or a similar period of internship in leading scientific centers abroad and/or significant scientific results confirmed by publications in leading international and/or foreign journals. The presence of experience working/interning in leading scientific centers abroad for at least two years is a mandatory condition for granting a grant to a young scientists' research laboratory of the NAS of Ukraine.
One person cannot be the leader of more than one scientific project funded by grants.
4. The duration of the scientific projects winning the competition is up to 2 years.
5. To participate in the competition, all participants must fill out the electronic Google form for young scientists of the NAS of Ukraine, available at: https://forms.gle/pW4ZNYWoM4rSThct8.
6. The scientific project is submitted for participation in the competition by submitting a request to open a scientific work and filling out the Google form for the scientific project (hereinafter – Submission).
6.1. The request is formed in the system RIT NOD NAS of Ukraine (http://tema-ndr.nas.gov.ua). Instructions for completing the Request are available at: http://ritnod.icybcluster.org.ua.
When forming the planned cost estimate of the scientific project in the RIT NOD NAS system, please note that:
– direct expenses under the grant cannot consist solely of salaries and payroll charges;
– overhead costs must not exceed 10% of the salaries of the main performers;
– utility costs are allowed only within overhead expenses.
The planned cost estimate of the scientific project (Appendix B to the Request) is submitted without detailed calculations by expense items.
6.2. The formation of the Submission for obtaining a grant is done by filling out the corresponding Google form at the following link: https://forms.gle/YGHfwQwRGRgSqshu5.
The Submission must include:
– an extract from the minutes of the meeting of the scientific council of the NAS of Ukraine scientific institution supporting the scientific project for participation in the NAS of Ukraine grants competition, scanned in pdf format with signatures and seal.
– the scientific project questionnaire in doc format (Appendix 1).
– the scientific project abstract in doc format in Ukrainian and English (Appendix 2). The abstract must include a list of publications by the project leader and performers on the project topic over the last 5 years;
– information about the work (internship) of the project leader in foreign scientific centers and/or international projects in which they participated (Appendix 4). If this information is missing, it will be assumed that the young scientist has not worked (interned) abroad and has not participated in international projects.
7. After completing and filling out the Request and Submission, it is necessary to inform the Commission by sending a corresponding message to the email address: nmnasu@gmail.com. The Commission will verify and register them.
8. The registered Request, printed in two copies, must be signed by the head of the scientific institution. One copy of the Request must be kept in this institution, and the other, along with the signed Submission documents, must be sent to the Commission (01601, Kyiv 30, Volodymyrska St., 54, Commission on Work with Young Scientists (room 421), tel. 9. Scientific projects for grants are sent for expert evaluation and competitive selection to the relevant sections of the NAS of Ukraine. When preparing conclusions, experts must be guided by the criteria defined in the expert questionnaire (form attached). Priority in selection is given to works aimed at enhancing the security and defense capability of Ukraine and its restoration during the wartime and post-war periods.
Scientific projects submitted to the competition may, by decision of the NAS of Ukraine sections, be evaluated through presentations by their leaders before the competition commissions of the respective sections and/or at meetings of the bureaus of NAS of Ukraine departments. Based on the results of the competitive selection, the sections submit to the Commission on Work with Young Scientists of the NAS of Ukraine ranking lists of scientific projects submitted to the respective NAS of Ukraine section and the section’s decision regarding the presentation of the best scientific projects for obtaining NAS of Ukraine grants, determined taking into account the relevant quotas.
