The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Department of Energy and Energy Technologies of the NAS of Ukraine, with deep sorrow announce that on December 30, 2025, at the age of 93, the heart of the outstanding Ukrainian scientist in the field of electric power engineering and electrical engineering, the organizer of science, the honorary director of the Institute of Electrodynamics of the NAS of Ukraine, laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology, Honored Scientist of Ukraine, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Anatoliy Korniyovych Shydlovskyi stopped beating.
Anatoliy Korniyovych Shydlovskyi was born on October 10, 1933, in the village of Vepryk in Chernihiv region. After graduating in 1957 from the Electrical Engineering Faculty of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, he began his career as an engineer at a compressor station in the village of Boyarka.
All of Anatoliy Korniyovych’s subsequent creative life, almost 66 years, was connected with the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. His development as a scientist took place in the team of the Institute of Electrodynamics of the NAS of Ukraine, where since 1959 he advanced from engineer to director of the Institute. Since 2007 he was honorary director, and since 2015 – advisor to the Institute’s management. From 1989 to 1998 he was academic secretary of the Department of Physical and Technical Problems of Energy of the NAS of Ukraine, and from 1998 to 2004 – vice president of the NAS of Ukraine.
Anatoliy Korniyovych enriched science with results of great importance for the development of modern energy, the creation of efficient electric power equipment, and ensuring its reliability.
He is the author of the general theory of devices for compensating phase sequences of voltages and currents in multiphase circuits, aimed at solving the problem of stabilizing energy parameters in electrical systems with asymmetric and nonlinear loads. Anatoliy Korniyovych paid great attention to the comprehensive development of Ukraine’s fuel and energy complex. On his initiative and under his leadership, the Energy Strategy of Ukraine for the period up to 2030 and beyond was developed.
Recognition of his merits in science included the election of A.K. Shydlovskyi as an academician of the NAS of Ukraine, awarding him the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology, the NAS of Ukraine prizes named after V.M. Khrushchov and S.O. Lebedev, the honorary title of Honored Scientist of Ukraine, and awarding him the Orders of “Badge of Honor,” “For Merit” III degree, Prince Yaroslav the Wise V degree, as well as many other awards.
The bright memory of academician of the NAS of Ukraine Anatoliy Korniyovych Shydlovskyi – an outstanding Ukrainian scientist and organizer of science, an extraordinary personality and a person of sincere and broad soul – will be preserved in the hearts of those who worked and communicated with him, and his deeds will live on in the work of his colleagues, students, and followers.
