
On June 3, 2026, the XXII Biographical Readings "Biographical Knowledge in the Social, Intellectual, and Spiritual Space of Modern Ukraine" will be held at the V.I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, dedicated to the memory of the founder and first director of the Institute of Biographical Research of the V.I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Vitaliy Serhiyovych Chyshko (1951–2003).
The purpose of the readings is to discuss the achievements and tasks of Ukrainian biography, the problems of increasing its role and significance in the national scientific, educational, and cultural-information space as one of the effective tools for raising patriotic consciousness and civic solidarity among compatriots, consolidating society in the struggle for the freedom and independence of Ukraine.
The organizers invite scientists from research institutions, higher education institutions, and specialists from libraries, archives, museums, publishing houses, and information centers to participate.
Topics for discussion:
- raising the role and significance of biographical knowledge, bringing it closer to the interests of a wide range of compatriots;
- biography and the humanistic values of the Ukrainian world, national and civic self-identification of the individual;
- variety of forms and genres of the Ukrainian biographical narrative, the creative toolkit of modern Ukrainian biography;
- domestic biography in the dimensions of the global world;
- algorithms of representation of war heroes in the biographical narratives of Ukraine's information space;
- human fate and heritage of generations of figures in science, education, and culture who lived and worked during totalitarian times;
- biography of the Ukrainian diaspora;
- prosopographical reconstructions in the space of biography;
- modern literary biography: synthesis of documentary and artistic discourse;
- Ukrainian memoirs in the communicative space of the 21st century;
- female (auto)biographical narrative;
- orientation and enrichment of communicative practices of biography;
- biographical literature for children and youth in wartime conditions;
- biography in the space of publishing activities and electronic information resources.
Working languages: Ukrainian, English, Polish.
Presentation time limit: reports – up to 10 minutes, announcements – up to 5 minutes.
To participate in the readings, it is necessary to submit: applications for reports/announcements – by May 10, 2026, manuscripts of abstracts – by May 20, 2026.
No organizational fee is required.
The texts of participants' reports and announcements are planned to be published in the electronic scientific collection of the Institute of Biographical Research of the V.I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine "Biography. Biographica. Biographistics," and video recordings of the presentations will be published on the Institute's YouTube channel of the same name.
