According to official data, about 60 million people worldwide suffer from Alzheimer's disease. In reality, this number is much higher. It is predicted that by 2050 the number of patients with neurodegenerative diseases may triple.

Despite decades of research, there are still no effective drugs. Scientists are looking for new approaches to invent them at the intersection of biotechnology, nanoscience, and molecular genetics.

The achievements of Ukrainian scientists in this direction are discussed in an article by science journalist Olena Zelenina in the pages of the online publication "Hromada. Group".

In particular, the Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the Institute of Food Biotechnology and Genomics of the NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Biological Sciences Sergiy Shulha, in a conversation with the Vice President of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician Volodymyr Seminozhenko, within the framework of the program "About Science. Competently," spoke about the scientists' latest development – a spray based on curcumin that can stop the progression of Alzheimer's disease at early stages.
