What was the Soviet Union? What caused its emergence? What was the Bolsheviks' attitude towards the "Ukrainian question" before the overthrow of the tsar, and how did this affect the outcomes of the Russian and Ukrainian revolutions? Senior Research Fellow of the Department of Ukrainian History of the 1920s-30s at the Institute of History of Ukraine of the NAS of Ukraine, Candidate of Historical Sciences Hennadiy Yefimenko discussed this and much more in his interview on the podcast "Historian Every Saturday."

The scholar explained whether the initiation of Ukrainization was truly part of Soviet policy. The historian also talked about when the term "русскій" became established in the USSR as the name for ethnic Russians and when the prefix "велико" was removed from the Russian language.
