People rarely think about the fact that thousands of tons of space debris from satellites, spacecraft, fragments of old rockets, and so on move above their heads every second. Space is no longer something distant; it has become a part of everyday life that affects communication, navigation, security, and the development of technologies. Specialists from the Main Astronomical Observatory of the NAS of Ukraine monitor this complex traffic over the Earth daily.
What research are the scientists of the MAO NAS of Ukraine conducting today, what space mysteries are they solving, and is the near-Earth orbit really gradually turning into a junkyard? To understand these important and relevant questions, the new episode of the program "About Science. Competently," which airs on the YouTube channel of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, features the head of the Laboratory of Methodological and Informational Support of Education and Science at the Astronomical MAO NAS of Ukraine, Mykhailo Lashko.
The author and host of the program is the Vice President of the NAS of Ukraine, academician of the NAS of Ukraine, Volodymyr Semynozhenko.
