The 3rd issue of the popular science magazine “Svitohlyad” (May-June) for 2026 has been published, an edition produced by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine together with the Main Astronomical Observatory of the NAS of Ukraine.

In the “FROM THE CHIEF EDITOR” note, academician Yaroslav Yatskiv announces the 20th anniversary of the “Svitohlyad” magazine this year and reflects on the problem of the national idea and the national state, also inviting authors to a discussion on this topical subject.

Next in the issue, several facts from the biography of Ivan Dziuba on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of his birth are presented by Olesya Kotubey-Herutska.

The pamphlet by Ivan Dziuba “Internationalism or Russification?”, the publication of which became one of the turning points of the Ukrainian dissident movement, was first published abroad in 1968. In Ukraine, the book appeared thirty years later. We offer you the “FOREWORD BY IVAN DZIUBA TO THE EDITION ‘INTERNATIONALISM OR RUSSIFICATION?’ 1998.”

The relay of generations of renowned writers continues. The editorial board and staff congratulate the outstanding writer and public figure Vasyl Shkliar, who is called the “father of the Ukrainian bestseller,” on his 75th birthday! Congratulations were sent by Mariya Matios, writer, Borys Romanyuk, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, and Yaroslav Yatskiv, academician of the NAS of Ukraine. Vasyl Shkliar, a well-known contemporary Ukrainian writer, public figure, and extraordinary person, is also featured in a photo collection: “PHOTO GALLERY OF VASYL SHKLIAR.”

In July 2026, it will be 420 years since the birth of the outstanding Dutch painter Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606–1669), whose work was highly valued by Taras Shevchenko. The concept of “art” is synonymous with the beautiful and perfect, equally relating to both aesthetic expression and technological execution. “FOUNDRY PRODUCTION IN ARTISTIC LANGUAGE: HOW MAN CONQUERS FIERY METAL” – an article by Doctor of Technical Sciences Volodymyr Doroshenko (Physics and Technology Institute of Metals and Alloys of the NAS of Ukraine, Kyiv) and Candidate of Technical Sciences Anatoliy Kocheshkov (National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute,” Kyiv) is wonderfully illustrated by paintings of American artist-founder David Knapp, whose canvases uniquely combine separate production sites into integral compositions, demonstrating the full cycle of metal transformation.

During the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, critical reflection and systematic application of retrospective Ukrainian and European military art experience are necessary, believes Anatoliy Pavko, Doctor of Historical Sciences (Institute of Ukrainian Studies, Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Kyiv), who shares his thoughts with readers in the article “PROBLEMS OF MILITARY ART IN THE SCIENTIFIC HERITAGE OF K. CLAUSEWITZ.”

The National Art Museum of Ukraine has always been at the heart of the country's events. In an interview with Olesya Chadyuk (Academic Publishing House “Akademperiodyka” NAS of Ukraine, Kyiv) “THE MISSION OF ‘SONCESKHID’ – TO WITHSTAND, REINTERPRET, AND PRESERVE,” the museum director Yulia Lytvynets talks about the museum’s activities amid the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, the most interesting projects of 2025–2026, strategies of cultural resistance, restitution of stolen relics, and the renewed interpretation of the national artistic heritage, which is now sprouting new meanings.
