The publishing house “ibidem-Verlag” (Germany) has published in English a collective monograph by scholars of the I. F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnonational Studies of the NAS of Ukraine “The Political System of Post-Soviet Ukraine: Constitutional Ramifications, Key Institutions, and Political Practices of the Independent Ukrainian State, 1991–2023” (“The Political System of Post-Soviet Ukraine: Constitutional Dimension, Key Institutions, and Political Practices of the Independent Ukrainian State in 1991–2023”). The book was published in the prestigious international series “Soviet and Post-Soviet Politics and Society” (Vol. 299), indexed in the international database Scopus, under the scientific editorship of the Deputy Director for Research of the I. F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnonational Studies of the NAS of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Political Institutions and Processes of the same Institute, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Halyna Zelenko, and with a foreword by the Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Director of the I. F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnonational Studies of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine Oleh Rafalskyi.
The monograph offers a comprehensive analysis of the political system of Ukraine, its constitutional foundations, institutional architecture, and functioning practices throughout 1991–2023. The authors pay special attention to the interaction of formal and informal institutions, features of the Ukrainian semi-presidential model, activities of the parliament, government, judiciary, political parties, and electoral institutions. A separate chapter is devoted to the challenges to the resilience of the Ukrainian state during wartime and prospects for post-war reconstruction.
The monograph’s chapters include studies on the form of government in Ukraine, parliament and parliamentarism, party system, the role of civil society, financial-industrial groups, judiciary, as well as analysis of issues of constitutionalism and institutional capacity of the state. The publication concludes with an author’s conclusion by Halyna Zelenko, dedicated to institutional resilience and political development trajectories of Ukraine.
The release of this work will contribute to broader representation of the research results of Ukrainian scholars in the international academic community.
