Recently, the publishing house “Ibidem Press” published an English-language collective monograph by Ukrainian scholars “Fake Russia. Investigations into Moscow’s Imitations of Greatness and Power”, dedicated to contemporary Russia and the preconditions of Russian military aggression against Ukraine.
The publication is part of the prestigious international book series “Soviet and Post-Soviet Politics and Society”, indexed in the international scientometric database Scopus and is one of the most authoritative series in the field of research on politics, history, and social processes in the post-Soviet space.
The scientific editor of the monograph was the Deputy Director for Research at the I. F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnonational Studies of the NAS of Ukraine, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Halyna Zelenko.
The book brought together researchers from the I. F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnonational Studies of the NAS of Ukraine (Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Halyna Zelenko and Candidate of Political Sciences Mykola Ryabchuk), the M. S. Hrushevsky Institute of Ukrainian Archaeography and Source Studies of the NAS of Ukraine (Candidate of Historical Sciences Andriy Starodub), and the National Institute for Strategic Studies (Candidate of Political Sciences Volodymyr Nahirnyi and Candidate of Historical Sciences Iryna Pavlenko).
The research was prepared with financial support from the International Renaissance Foundation.
Relying on international and Russian sources, expert assessments, and empirical data, the authors analyze the real state of political, economic, and social processes in contemporary Russia. The book examines the nature of the Russian political regime, mechanisms of state propaganda, existing and potential socio-political divisions, ethnonational processes in the Russian pseudo-federation, ideological grounds for Russian claims on Ukraine, as well as the concept of the “Z World Order” – the “new world order” that Russia is trying to impose on the world through aggressive war against Ukraine, using the concept of a “special military operation” as a tool to implement its own vision of the international system.
The Ukrainian version of the monograph is available for free download.
