On April 28, 2026, a scientific seminar "Forty Years of the Chernobyl Disaster. Long-term Consequences, Current Problems, and Prospects for Their Resolution" will be held at the V. I. Vernadsky Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the NAS of Ukraine.
The event will bring together leading scientists of the NAS of Ukraine, who will present research results and developments in the field of radiation and environmental safety, as well as discuss current challenges and possible solutions – from fundamental research to applied technologies.
Seminar program:
- Opening speech by the director of the V. I. Vernadsky Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Serhiy Solopan;
- The Echoes of Chernobyl. Speaker – Director of the A. V. Dumansky Institute of Colloid Chemistry and Water Chemistry of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine Vladyslav Honcharuk.
- Electrochemical Decontamination. Speaker – Head of the Department of Electrochemistry and Technology of Inorganic Materials of the V. I. Vernadsky Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the NAS of Ukraine, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Anatoliy Omelchuk.
- The Contribution of Biocolloid Chemistry to Solving Certain Issues Related to the Chernobyl NPP Accident. Speaker – Director of the F. D. Ovcharenko Institute of Biocolloid Chemistry of the NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Technical Sciences Vitaliy Prokopenko.
- Clay Minerals as Effective Sorbents of Radionuclides in Environmental Protection Systems. Speaker – Head of the Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry of the Institute of Sorption and Endoecology Problems of the NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Iryna Kovalchuk.
- Highly Selective Calixarene Extractants and Sorbents of Radionuclides. Speaker – Head of the Department of Macrocyclic Compounds Chemistry of the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Serhiy Cherenok.
- Creation of Sorbents at the L. V. Pisarzhevsky Institute of Physical Chemistry of the NAS of Ukraine to Overcome the Consequences of the Chernobyl NPP Accident. Speaker – Leading Engineer of the L. V. Pisarzhevsky Institute of Physical Chemistry of the NAS of Ukraine Tamila Serebriy.
Special attention will be given to developing recommendations to strengthen cooperation between academic institutions and other organizations, as well as expanding interdisciplinary research in the field of radiation and environmental safety.
