With deep sorrow, we announce that on March 13, 2026, at the age of 85, the renowned scientist in the field of controlled multi-element mechanical systems, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Head of the Department of System Analysis and Control Problems at the Institute of Technical Mechanics of the NAS of Ukraine and the State Space Agency of Ukraine, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Anatoliy Petrovych ALPATOV
passed away.
Anatoliy Petrovych Alpatov was born on August 26, 1941, in Barnaul, Altai Krai. After graduating in 1965 from the Kazan Aviation Institute, he worked at the Design Bureau "Pivdenne". In 1970, he joined the Institute of Technical Mechanics of the NAS of Ukraine and the State Space Agency of Ukraine, entering postgraduate studies.
The main directions of A.P. Alpatov's scientific activity were the dynamics of spacecraft and complexes; space tether systems; large-sized deployable space-based structures; ballistics of orbital service systems; solving problems of preventing pollution of the surrounding space environment; system analysis of space industry problems.
He conducted a number of relevant studies on the development of theory, methods of modeling, and analysis of the dynamics of space systems. He carried out a systematic study of the dynamics of movable control of various types of spacecraft in transient modes and stabilization modes. He obtained new results on stabilization and control of the motion of spatially developed space systems with tether connections. He improved methods of system analysis of complex mechanical systems. He solved a number of issues related to the dynamics of manipulative systems on a space platform, among others. Under the leadership and direct participation of A.P. Alpatov, work was carried out on the development of the National Targeted Scientific and Technical Space Program of Ukraine.
A.P. Alpatov was the author of over 300 scientific works and supervised 4 doctors and 13 candidates of sciences.
A.P. Alpatov always successfully combined fruitful scientific research with intensive scientific-organizational, pedagogical, and public activities. As the guarantor of the educational and scientific postgraduate program at the Institute of Technical Mechanics of the NAS of Ukraine and the State Space Agency of Ukraine in the specialty "automation and computer-integrated technologies," professor of the Department of Specialized Computer Systems at the Ukrainian State Chemical Technology University, member of specialized academic councils of the Oles Honchar Dnipro National University and the National Aerospace University named after M.E. Zhukovsky "KhAI," member of the Interagency Coordination Committee on Space Debris Removal, Coordination Council of the NAS of Ukraine on Informatization Issues, and the Council on Space Research of the NAS of Ukraine, member of editorial boards of scientific journals "Ukrainian Bulletin of Medical and Social Expertise," "Technical Mechanics," "Space Science and Technology," he constantly cared about the development of fundamental research, dedicating all his efforts to ensuring the development of mechanics in Ukraine.
The scientific community, colleagues, friends, and students sincerely mourn the death of Anatoliy Petrovych and express condolences to his family and loved ones.
The farewell will take place on March 17, 2026, in the village of Voloske, Dnipropetrovsk region.
