On March 26, 2026, the First Vice-President of the NAS of Ukraine, Head of the Section of Physical-Technical and Mathematical Sciences of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician Vyacheslav Bogdanov, Acting Chief Scientific Secretary of the NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Philosophy Oleg Kubalsky, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Energy and Energy Technologies of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician Andriy Rusanov, and scientific secretaries of the Section and Department – Doctor of Technical Sciences Serhiy Bespalov and Candidate of Technical Sciences Vladyslav Titko, made a working visit to the Institute of Technical Thermophysics of the NAS of Ukraine.
The Director of the Institute, Academician Yuriy Snezhkin, acquainted the guests with the structure of the institution, its scientific schools, and main areas of activity, outlined key results, spoke about expert and international work, and presented the Institute’s developments in the Exhibition Hall.
The Head of the Department of Heat and Mass Transfer in Disperse Systems, Doctor of Technical Sciences Oleksandr Obodovych, demonstrated a water purification installation that allows oxygen enrichment and removal of iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide, and carbon dioxide.
Academician Yuriy Snezhkin spoke about the work of the Laboratory of Drying Process Kinetics and the pilot-industrial spray dryer. Candidate of Technical Sciences Vyacheslav Mykhailyk introduced the guests to the activities of the Laboratory of Thermophysical Research. Among other things, they demonstrated a differential scanning microcalorimeter DSM-2M for measuring temperature and heat of phase transitions and a derivatograph Q-1000 for thermal analysis of materials.
Candidate of Technical Sciences Bohdan Tselenya presented the Institute’s Shared Use Center “Axio Imager Z1m Light Microscope.” The device has been in operation since 2008 and was modernized in 2019 and 2025.
The Head of the Department of Thermophysical Foundations of Energy-Saving Technologies, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Borys Basok, introduced the operation of an experimental heat pump and an individual heat point of the building. On the roof, a two-stage two-circuit air heat pump with a capacity of 120 kW, created with financial support from the United Kingdom, is installed. It provides heating, hot water supply, and air conditioning for a building with an area of over 3,000 m².
Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Zhanna Petrova presented the results obtained on the experimental convective-chamber dryer. This concerns the creation and implementation of energy-efficient thermal technologies that reduce energy consumption and raw material losses during processing.
The Head of the Department of High-Temperature Thermogas Dynamics, Academician Artem Khalatov, presented a laboratory sample of a pulse-detonation engine with a thrust of 10-40 kgf for use in subsonic unmanned interceptor vehicles and airborne objects. Candidate of Technical Sciences Volodymyr Demchenko showed experimental samples of camouflage cloaks that underwent comprehensive testing in laboratory and field conditions.
The visit concluded with a review of the experimental energy-efficient passive “zero-energy” house with intelligent energy supply systems. Demonstrations included energy-efficient facade insulation test sites, various types of window structures, and ground heat exchangers. The building’s annual heat consumption meets European requirements for passive construction.
At the end, the Director of the Institute presented a presentation on the scientific and scientific-organizational activities of the institution, outlined further development prospects, and highlighted issues requiring support at the Academy level.
The First Vice-President of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine Vyacheslav Bogdanov, noted the results of the Institute’s work, thanked the team for many years of work, and emphasized the importance of practical developments and their implementation.
