
May 5–7, 2026, the Joint scientific conference of the L.V. Pisarzhevsky Institute of Physical Chemistry of the NAS of Ukraine took place.
The tradition of holding annual scientific conferences of the L.V. Pisarzhevsky Institute of Physical Chemistry of the NAS of Ukraine has been established since the founding of the Institute. Within this year's conference, the 53rd conference-competition of young scientists and specialists of the Institute was also held. At the scientific conference of the Institute, 30 oral reports by scientific staff were presented, 22 of which were delivered by young specialists, postgraduate students, and students working in various departments of the Institute.
The heard reports were devoted to current problems in the scientific fields developed at the Institute: these include the theory of chemical structure, kinetics and reactivity, catalysis, adsorption and adsorbents, high-energy chemistry, and physico-inorganic chemistry.
The conference was held at a high scientific level. The speakers highlighted new results obtained in modern relevant areas of world science. In particular, the development of modern cobalt-nitrogen-carbon (Co-N-C) electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction and hydrogen evolution, which is important for the development of renewable energy and environmentally safe power sources, was the subject of a report by the Institute's doctoral candidate, Candidate of Chemical Sciences Yaroslav Kurys. A number of works were carried out in the field of processing renewable raw materials and obtaining valuable organic products from them. The report of doctoral candidate Olga Larina presented the results of creating multifunctional catalysts for tandem processes to obtain valuable hydrocarbons and oxygenates from C2, C4 alcohols. In recent years, the Institute has developed new zeolite materials for the catalytic conversion of glucose into valuable organic products, as reported by senior research fellow, Candidate of Chemical Sciences Mykhailo Kurmach. Postgraduate student Dmytro Kyryliuk created new porous composite materials for the catalytic production of cyclic carbonates and carbamates using CO2 as a feedstock. Leading engineer Vladyslav Stets presented a scientific report on the influence of the content of functional groups on the catalytic properties of hydrogen-activated carbon nanotubes in hydrogenation processes, which is of significant interest for fundamental science and for understanding the reasons for the catalytic activity of carbon-containing materials.
In recent years, the Institute has been conducting research in the field of metal-complex catalysis for obtaining valuable substances for fine organic synthesis. Among the reports in this direction, the report of postgraduate student Mykyta Ivanytsia, dedicated to establishing the mechanism of reductive coupling of aryl halides in the presence of zinc and nickel complexes, and the report of postgraduate student Yulian Lishchenko on enantioselective catalytic sulfoxidation of thioethers in the presence of manganese complexes stand out.
Significant attention was attracted by student reports, in particular the report of Maxym Filippov on the structure and properties of new allyl palladium complexes – catalysts of a new generation of cross-coupling reactions, the report of Elina Kirposenko devoted to the development of compounds with luminescent properties – Eu3+ complexes with bis(semicarbazones) of 2,6-diacetylpyridine – as the basis of modern luminescent materials, and the presentation of Bohdan Puzanov on a new method for testing the quality and efficiency of hydrogenation catalysts, which is important for hydrogenating a large number of compounds in fine organic synthesis for the needs of pharmaceuticals and agrochemistry.
The scientific conference of the Institute gave participants the opportunity to exchange experiences, critically analyze their achievements, and identify the most promising directions for further research aimed at solving fundamental and applied problems of modern physical chemistry. The presented works provoked many questions and active discussions, in which members of the Institute's Academic Council – members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Petro Stryzhak, Yaroslav Lampeka, Serhii Soloviov, Serhii Kolotilov, as well as other scientists of the Institute took part.
Summing up, the Institute's director, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Vitalii Pavlishchuk, noted the high scientific level of the conference, the relevance of the presented works, and their scientific novelty. At the same time, he emphasized that the doors of the Institute are always open to future scientists who strive to develop the Ukrainian chemical school and wished everyone inspiration and professional achievements.
