14.04.2026

On April 21, 2026, a roundtable "40th Anniversary of the Chernobyl Tragedy: Lessons from the Past and Challenges of Nuclear Security Today" will be held in Kyiv.

The event is organized by JSC "NNEGC Energoatom," the Ukrainian Peace Council, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and the NGO "Ukrainian Nuclear Society."

The event will take place at JSC "NNEGC Energoatom" in a hybrid format – with the possibility of online participation.

The roundtable is dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster – one of the largest man-made accidents of the 20th century, which significantly influenced the development of the international nuclear safety system and approaches to the regulation of nuclear energy.

The event plans to discuss the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster, the current state of nuclear security, and new global challenges arising in connection with military risks. Special attention will be paid to the unprecedented situation when nuclear infrastructure facilities found themselves in an active combat zone, as well as issues of nuclear non-proliferation and strengthening international security mechanisms.

Representatives of government authorities, scientific institutions, the public sector, and international organizations are invited to participate.

Among the participants and speakers are representatives of JSC "NNEGC Energoatom," scientists from the NAS of Ukraine, including specialists in the field of nuclear security, as well as Ukrainian and foreign experts.

Following the roundtable, it is planned to develop recommendations to strengthen international cooperation in the field of nuclear security and respond to current challenges.
