From March 3 to 5, 2026, the 7th International Conference "Fracture Mechanics of Materials and Structural Integrity" took place in Lviv at the G.V. Karpenko Physico-Mechanical Institute of the NAS of Ukraine.
As with previous conferences in this series, it was held under the auspices of the European Structural Integrity Society (ESIS). The co-organizers of the conference also included the G.V. Karpenko Physico-Mechanical Institute of the NAS of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Society for Fracture Mechanics of Materials, and the Western Scientific Center of the NAS of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
The conference was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding scientist in the field of fracture mechanics of materials and structural strength, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Volodymyr Panasyuk (1926-2026).
Considering the martial law in Ukraine, the conference was organized in a hybrid format (offline and online). The language of the conference was English.
The conference was opened and welcomed by its chairman, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Zinoviy Nazarchuk. After that, corresponding member of the NAS of Ukraine Ihor Dmytrakh delivered a report titled "Academician of the NAS of Ukraine Volodymyr Panasyuk and his contribution to the development of fracture mechanics and strength of materials."
The conference program included six thematic directions:
- fracture and strength of materials;
- mathematical methods and fracture modeling;
- fracture in the presence of aggressive environments;
- structural integrity;
- non-destructive methods for assessing material defects;
- applied aspects of fracture mechanics.
In total, 51 scientific reports and 22 short scientific communications were heard and discussed.
Among the speakers and co-authors were representatives from 18 countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Canada, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Mexico, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, and others.
Ukraine was represented by scientists from leading institutions of the NAS of Ukraine and higher education institutions, including the E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute of the NAS of Ukraine, the S.P. Timoshenko Institute of Mechanics of the NAS of Ukraine, the Ya.S. Pidstryhach Institute of Applied Problems of Mechanics and Mathematics of the NAS of Ukraine, the G.V. Karpenko Physico-Mechanical Institute of the NAS of Ukraine, the National University "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute named after Igor Sikorsky," the National University "Lviv Polytechnic," Odesa National University named after I.I. Mechnikov, Dnipro National University named after Oles Honchar, Lutsk National Technical University, Ternopil National Technical University named after Ivan Pulyui, Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, Ivano-Frankivsk National University of Oil and Gas, National University "Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic," and others.
Based on the results of the conference, the texts of the reports will be published in a special issue of the international professional journal "Procedia Structural Integrity," for which the conference organizers have signed an agreement with the well-known scientific publisher "Elsevier."
