On May 21, 2026, a large-scale ceremonial opening of the permanent exhibition "Everyday Culture of Villages and Towns of Ukraine in the Context of Galicia in the Dimension of Time" took place at the Museum of Ethnography and Artistic Industry of the Institute of Folklore Studies of the NAS of Ukraine (Lviv, Rynok Square, 10). In an original modern museum format, the last thematic section "Culture of Cities and Towns of Galicia at the End of the 19th – Beginning of the 20th Century" was presented, among other things.
In 14 halls, two fundamental worlds of Ukraine are panoramically revealed in historical reconstruction – the spiritual-religious and the everyday culture of traditional daily life – recreated through rituals, symbolism, folk crafts, trades, and everyday life from the deep layers of the rural oikoumene to the material world and life of Ukrainian cities and towns, primarily using Galicia as an example. The culture of city dwellers at the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th century is a culture of balance: between tradition and modernity, between private and public, between local and pan-European.
At the opening of the exhibition, the following delivered ceremonial speeches:
- Director of the Institute of Folklore Studies of the NAS of Ukraine, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Stepan Pavlyuk;
- Chairman of the Commission on Culture and Church Art of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Director of the Museum of Sacred Art of the Lviv Archdiocese of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Doctor, Father Sevastian (Stepan) Dmytrukh;
- Chairman of the Shevchenko Scientific Society in Ukraine, Director of the Institute of Applied Problems of Mechanics and Mathematics named after Y.S. Pidstryhach of the NAS of Ukraine, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Roman Kushnir;
- Director of the Lviv Historical Museum, Doctor of Historical Sciences Roman Chmelik;
- Art critic, Professor of the Department of Artistic Wood at the Faculty of Decorative and Applied Arts of the Lviv National Academy of Arts, Doctor of Historical Sciences Roman Yatsiv;
- Artist of decorative and applied arts, Professor of the Department of History and Theory of Art at the Faculty of History and Theory of Arts of the Lviv National Academy of Arts, Doctor of Art Studies Rostyslav Shmagalo;
- Director of the Lviv Regional Universal Scientific Library Ivan Svarnyk;
- Associate Professor of the Department of Theology at the Philosophical-Theological Faculty of the Ukrainian Catholic University, Doctor of Social Communications Mykhailo Perun;
- Project curator, Senior Researcher of the Museum of Ethnography and Artistic Industry of the Institute of Folklore Studies of the NAS of Ukraine, Candidate of Historical Sciences Lyudmyla Bulgakova.
The event was moderated by the Deputy Director of the Institute of Folklore Studies of the NAS of Ukraine, Candidate of Art Studies Andriy Klimashevskyi.
The conclusion of the ceremonial event was the awarding of the NAS of Ukraine distinction "For Professional Achievements" to the project curator, longtime employee of the Institute of Folklore Studies of the NAS of Ukraine, Candidate of Historical Sciences Lyudmyla Bulgakova.
