On July 24, 2026, to mark the day of Ivan Mazepa's election as Hetman, a presentation of the unique 'Mazepiana in museum and private collections of Ukraine" catalogue took place; it was published by the ‘Akademperiodyka’ Publishing House of the NAS of Ukraine in cooperation with the ‘Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra’ National Reserve. The book was prepared by Professor Olha Kovalevska, DSc in History, Leading research fellow at the Research Department for the study of the cultural heritage of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, well-known researcher of the Mazepa era, the iconography of Hetman Ivan Mazepa, and Mazepiana from the late 17th to the first quarter of the 21st century.
Representatives of museums, scientific institutions, libraries, and public organizations that preserve scientific, literary, and artistic Mazepiana and work with the cultural and historical heritage of Ukraine participated in the event (Institute of History of Ukraine of the NAS of Ukraine, ‘Akademperiodyka’ Publishing House of the NAS of Ukraine, ‘Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra’ National Reserve, Museums of prominent figures of Ukrainian culture Lesya Ukrainka, Mykola Lysenko, Mykhailo Starytsky, Panas Saksahansky, National Military History Museum of Ukraine, Museum-Archive of the Press founded by Vakhtang Kipiani), the ‘Historical Platform NGO, National Historical Library of Ukraine, ‘Library on Vyshhorodska’, the 25th Brigade ‘Prince Askold’ of the National Guard of Ukraine, private collectors, and others.
The participants at the presentation discussed the results of the exhibition project and the work on the catalogue, and saw over the Ivan Mazepa memorial sign near the Assumption Cathedral.
The implementation of the publishing project continued the eponymous exhibition held in the fall of 2024 in the premises of the former library of the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, which gave rise to a wide public and cultural resonance. Perhaps for the first time in Ukraine, Hetman Mazepa’s figure was presented multifacetedly: as an outstanding statesman, military leader, diplomat, patron, and one of the most educated figures of his era. The vividly illustrated catalogue aims to form a general understanding of the scientific, artistic, musical, and military Mazepiana of the 19th - first quarter of the 21st centuries (both in Ukraine and abroad), its stages, content, and influence on the formation of Ukrainian national identity.
The idea of embodying the very ‘spirit’ of the exhibition in the catalogue was realized through the efforts of Olha Kovalevska, scientific curator of the exhibition and author of the publication. The reviewers of the publication were Professor Valentyna Piskun, DSc in History, Head of the Department of modern Ukrainian history sources at the M.S. Hrushevsky Institute of Ukrainian Archaeography and Source Studies of the NAS of Ukraine, and Valeriy Tomazov, DSc in History, Head of the Sector of genealogical and heraldic research of the Department of special spheres of historical science and electronic information resources at the Institute of History of Ukraine of the NAS of Ukraine. The text editor was Vyacheslav Hryhoriev, former Leading research fellow at the Institute of History of Ukraine of the NAS of Ukraine, now a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine .
The team of the ‘Akademperiodyka’ Publishing House of the NAS of Ukraine, led by Olha Burdik, Head of the Prepress Department and talented designer, participated in the preparation of the book.
