In Berlin, a book by a scholar from the I. F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnonational Studies of the NAS of Ukraine was presented

30.04.2026

On April 22, 2026, at the State Library of Berlin a presentation of the book by the chief research fellow of the I. F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnonational Studies of the NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Historical Sciences Yuriy Shapoval, "Bohdan Osadchuk. Life in a Trialogue" took place.

The publication was prepared at the initiative of the Center for Historical Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Berlin and was published as part of the series "Ukraine – Poland – Germany. Triangle of Dialogue." The book contains texts in three languages – Ukrainian, Polish, and German.

The study is dedicated to the figure of Bohdan Osadchuk – journalist, scholar, and professor at the Free University of Berlin. Born in Kolomyia, he lived in Berlin for over 70 years and became one of the key intellectuals who connected the Ukrainian, Polish, and German cultural spaces. Thanks to his fluency in three languages, Osadchuk earned the reputation of a "borderland man," and his analytical texts, published in leading Western European publications, have become part of the canon of Sovietology and remain relevant today.

A special place in the book is given to his cooperation with Jerzy Giedroyc and his activities within the environment of the Parisian journal of the Literary Institute in Maison-Laffitte (France), which played an important role in shaping Polish-Ukrainian dialogue and mutual understanding.

The presentation took place in the format of a discussion panel. The discussion included Bohdan Osadchuk’s former doctoral student in Berlin, now president of the Foundation "House of History of North Rhine-Westphalia" (Stiftung Haus der Geschichte Nordrhein-Westfalen), Basil Kerski. The event gathered a wide audience – among those present were scholars, journalists, and representatives of the public from Germany, Poland, and Ukraine.

The life and work of Bohdan Osadchuk sparked lively interest and active discussion, confirming the relevance of his intellectual heritage for the contemporary European context.
