The competition for the international L'OREAL-UNESCO 2027 award for women scientists in the fields of physical sciences, mathematics, and computer science is currently underway.
The award is given to five nominees from the five UNESCO geographical regions: Africa and Arab States, Asia and Oceania, Europe, Latin America, North America.
Each of the five laureates will receive a cash prize of 100,000 euros.
Candidates for the award must:
- have recognition from the international scientific community for their scientific achievements;
- actively participate in scientific research;
- have worked for at least five years in the fields of physical, mathematical, and computer sciences (according to the list in Appendix 1 of the candidate requirements at the end of the text).
Selection criteria for the competition participants:
- outstanding contribution to the overall development of science;
- the impact of the candidate's work on the current state of development in the relevant scientific field (number of publications, citations, participation in conferences, presence of patents, etc.);
- recognition of the candidate by colleagues in the relevant discipline through publications;
- recognition of the candidate's dedication to educational activities (teaching at higher education institutions, presence of graduate students, etc.) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The right to nominate candidates for the award is granted to:
- heads of universities or scientific institutions;
- members of academies of sciences or other national scientific institutions;
- department heads;
- professors;
- previous laureates of the L'OREAL-UNESCO award for women scientists.
The competition conditions do not allow self-nominations, nominations of family members, or nominations of scientific teams.
Applications must be submitted only electronically – by registering on the online platform.
For this, the nominee must register by creating an account with a password.
Submitted nominations for the award will be considered only if the submission includes:
- a brief justification for the choice of the candidate for the award (200–400 words) indicating her contribution to the development of science in her country;
- a concise summary (maximum 40 words) of the candidate's key technical or professional achievements;
- a detailed resume (CV) (maximum 3 pages) with links to any scientific social networks and/or the candidate's websites (e.g., ResearchGate, ORCID);
- a list of all the candidate's publications;
- a list of the candidate's most significant patents (starting with the most recent);
- a list of the 10 most important publications along with brief summaries (up to 150 words) justifying the significance of each publication, including information on the number of citations for each publication (excluding self-citations) and the impact factor of each journal;
- from three to five recommendation letters from prominent scientists who have not worked and do not work at the same institutions as the candidates.
