Mobile robotic complexes, the latest cybersecurity methods, developments in digital medicine: what scientists at the V.M. Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics are working on today was discussed during the visit of the Academy leadership to the institution.

07.04.2026

On March 7, 2026, the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, academician of NAS of Ukraine Anatoliy Zahorodniy, the first vice-president of NAS of Ukraine, head of the Section of Physical-Technical and Mathematical Sciences of NAS of Ukraine, academician of NAS of Ukraine Vyacheslav Bohdanov, academician-secretary of the Department of Informatics of NAS of Ukraine, academician of NAS of Ukraine Oleksandr Khimich, scientific secretary of the Section of Physical-Technical and Mathematical Sciences of NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Technical Sciences Serhiy Bespalov, and scientific secretary of the Department of Informatics of NAS of Ukraine, Candidate of Historical Sciences Olga Horokhovatska paid a working visit to the V.M. Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics of NAS of Ukraine and familiarized themselves with the main directions of its activities, important research results, and developments of scientists.

The Institute is a scientific institution that holds leading positions in the development of methods of mathematical modeling, optimization, and systems analysis, creation of new methods and technologies of artificial intelligence, as well as the development of general theory and methods of high-performance computing and big data analysis, cybersecurity methods and information protection, new information technologies and intelligent systems, and digital technologies in medicine.

During the visit, the Academy's leadership familiarized themselves with the structure of the Institute, the state of its material and technical base, and the activities of scientific units. The Director of the Institute, academician of NAS of Ukraine Ivan Sergienko, told the delegation members about the institution's activities, its structure, personnel potential, and main research directions, highlighted key achievements in scientific and publication fields, cooperation of scientists with industrial enterprises, work with young scientists, and international activities.

Corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine Leonid Gulyanytskyi presented research and development results in the field of the use of mobile robotic complexes and their groups. They find applications in logistics, agriculture, search and rescue operations, disaster response, mapping, etc. Special attention was paid to solving problems of effective mission planning for mobile complexes and their groups, including planning individual and group trajectories, forming group configurations, as well as developing user service strategies and adapting to unforeseen circumstances in real time.

The Deputy Director of the Institute for Scientific Work, academician of NAS of Ukraine Oleksandr Khimich, presented theoretical and practical results in the field of high-performance computing and mathematical modeling. In particular, as learned from the introduction, a new class of parallel 2D block-cyclic matrix factorization algorithms adapted to multi-GPU architecture has been developed, where computations are carried out exclusively in the GPU processor environment, along with a software complex that implements the function of automatic adaptive tuning of the algorithm, programs, and computer topology based on the properties of the problem with elements of artificial intelligence. The results have been implemented at the State Scientific Research Institute of Automated Systems in Construction, the E.O. Paton Institute of Electric Welding of NAS of Ukraine, the Institute of Geology of NAS of Ukraine, the S.P. Timoshenko Institute of Mechanics of NAS of Ukraine, and the Ivchenko-Progress State Enterprise.

Corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine Petro Stetsiuk highlighted the main theoretical results on stochastic, nonsmooth, and discrete optimization obtained at the Institute and demonstrated some of their applications for applied optimization tasks and risk theory. These are new mathematical methods of robust optimization, nonlinear stochastic analysis, and modeling using safety functioning of complex economic, technical, and biological systems.

Academician of NAS of Ukraine Valeriy Zadyraka spoke about the latest cybersecurity methods, cryptographic and steganographic methods of information protection. Special emphasis was placed on developed post-quantum cryptography methods – a new generation of encryption algorithms designed to protect data from attacks by future super-powerful quantum computers.

The Deputy Director for Scientific Work, academician of NAS of Ukraine Oleksandr Palahin, presented the latest achievements of the Institute in the field of digital medicine, including a transdisciplinary intelligent information-analytical system supporting rehabilitation processes during the pandemic, a cloud platform for patient-centered telerehabilitation of cancer patients based on mathematical modeling, created within two projects of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine. A recently created expert decision support system based on artificial intelligence is designed to operate as part of a telediagnostic platform and has been implemented in the educational process at the I.Ya. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University.

During the visit to the Department of Information Form Converters, the Institute's scientists demonstrated the serial device "Floratest" for express diagnostics of plant condition and a wireless sensor network for agriculture and the food industry. The results are used in digital farming to increase productivity and ensure sustainable agriculture, as well as in the food industry.

The Academy's leadership also visited the Department of Sensor Devices and Systems, where they familiarized themselves with the highly sensitive SQUID sensor magnetometric systems (SQUID - Superconducting Quantum Interference Device) created at the Institute. For interpreting measurement data, the institution's specialists developed methods of data transformation and analysis related to solving the inverse problem of magnetostatics, where the sources of the magnetic field are found based on measurement data. These artificial intelligence methods became the basis for building information-diagnostic technologies and SQUID sensor magnetometric systems in cardiological diagnostics; experimental susceptometric systems for controlling drug delivery to target organs, analyzing magnetic properties of materials, as well as creating a highly sensitive SQUID magnetometric module for use in remote humanitarian demining systems. In addition, portable electrocardiographic devices and information-diagnostic systems for civilian and military medicine were presented.

During the visit, the Academy's leadership was also shown the Shared Use Center for scientific equipment of the "SKIT" supercomputer complex of NAS of Ukraine. The head of the high-performance computing laboratory, Candidate of Technical Sciences Andriy Holovynskyi, spoke about the architecture and characteristics of the supercomputer complex, which consists of several connected clusters, the most powerful of which has a peak performance of over 200 TFLOPS and is intended for solving artificial intelligence tasks. Thanks to the use of the "SKIT" supercomputers, research institutes of NAS of Ukraine, as well as scientists from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, have obtained important fundamental and applied results in molecular biology and genetics, chemistry, materials science, mechanics and hydromechanics, medicine, etc.

Summing up the visit, the President of NAS of Ukraine, academician of NAS of Ukraine Anatoliy Zahorodniy, noted the high scientific level of research conducted at the Institute, their significance for the security and defense of the state, and wished the scientists further success and new significant results.
