OOn June 17, 2026, a roundtable "Research Infrastructures in the Scientific and Innovation System of Ukraine" was held in Kyiv; it was organized as part of the implementation of the international RIFF project under the EU "Horizon Europe" program.
The event brought together about 100 representatives of scientific institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, higher education institutions, and other organizations interested in the development of research infrastructures.
The focus of the participants was on legislative changes shaping the modern system of research infrastructures in Ukraine, European experience in their development, and the preparation of the national Roadmap for research infrastructures.
During the roundtable, information was presented about the evolution of the regulatory framework in this field, in particular about the new Law of Ukraine on research infrastructures and support for young scientists, adopted in February 2026. The law introduced an official classification of research infrastructures, defined the possibility of creating national consortia involving scientific institutions, universities, and businesses, and also provided for the creation of a Unified State Register of Research Infrastructures.
Participants paid special attention to the implementation of Open Science principles and FAIR standards for scientific data management, which are important components of Ukraine’s integration into the European Research Area.
The event also presented the experience of European Union countries regarding the organization and development of research infrastructures, approaches to forming national roadmaps, and the opportunities opened by the RIFF project for the Ukrainian scientific community.
Representatives of scientific institutions of the NAS of Ukraine and higher education institutions shared practical experience in implementing projects for the creation and development of research infrastructures, preparing applications for the RIFF Open Call, and interdepartmental cooperation. The reports and speeches were accompanied by active discussion, demonstrating the high interest of the scientific community in forming a new system of research infrastructures in Ukraine.
The RIFF project Open Call is currently ongoing, aimed at collecting proposals for preparing the Roadmap for the recovery and improvement of Ukraine’s research infrastructures. Applications are accepted until July 13, 2026.
