The submission of documents for the Boris Paton Scholarship of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for young scientists for the year 2027 has begun.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine informs about the start of document submission for participation in the competitive selection for the appointment of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine scholarship named after Borys Paton for young scientists for 2027.

The scholarship is awarded in accordance with the Regulation on the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Scholarship named after Borys Paton, approved by the Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine dated December 4, 2025, No. 4712-IX "On Approval of Regulations on Prizes and Scholarships of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine".

Who can submit documents

Citizens of Ukraine who meet the following criteria can participate in the competition:

  • as of December 31 of the year following the year of the competition, are young scientists up to and including 35 years old and have higher education not lower than the second (master's) level;
  • or are scientists up to and including 40 years old and hold a doctoral degree;
  • have significant scientific achievements in the field of fundamental and/or applied scientific research and scientific-technical (experimental) developments;
  • conduct important scientific research and work in Ukraine with the possibility of performing scientific (scientific-technical) work in Ukraine.

Requirements for the scholarship work

The work must be at a high level of readiness and have the potential for an outstanding scientific achievement, the completion of which is possible within one year of receiving the scholarship.

Conditions of appointment

  • Up to 50 scholarships are awarded annually, of which up to 5 are for works containing information constituting state secrets.
  • The scholarship is awarded for a term of one year.
  • The monthly payment is five subsistence minimums for able-bodied persons, established as of January 1 of the year of receiving the scholarship.
  • Reappointment is possible no earlier than two years after the previous receipt of the scholarship.

Candidates are nominated by the decision of the academic (scientific, scientific-technical, technical) council of the institution at the main place of work or part-time.

The decision is made by secret ballot without the participation of the candidate.

The academic council is not entitled to:

  • nominate the same candidate simultaneously for several prizes or scholarships of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the President of Ukraine, or the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for different works if the payment is made in the same calendar year;
  • resubmit the same work for the appointment of a scholarship or awarding of a prize.

Procedure for submitting documents

Based on the decision of the academic council, the institution prepares a petition to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Education, Science, and Innovations with a set of documents of the nominee in two copies and an electronic copy (on a flash drive).

Documents along with a cover letter are submitted to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (Taras Shevchenko Boulevard, 16, Kyiv, Directorate of Science Development) or, depending on subordination, to the relevant central executive authorities, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, or national sectoral academies of sciences of Ukraine.

Works containing state secret information are submitted to the Security Service of Ukraine.

The deadline for submitting documents is April 30, 2026, inclusive.

All materials must be prepared, signed, and certified in accordance with the requirements of the Regulation.
