On March 19, 2026, a solemn ceremony of awarding the diploma of Honorary Doctor (Honoris causa) to the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Anatoliy Zahorodniy, took place at the Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian State University.
The ceremony was held during a meeting of the University Academic Council. It was opened by the rector of the Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian State University, Viktor Andrushchenko, who emphasized Anatoliy Zahorodniy's significant contribution to the development of modern science and education, highlighting the importance of his scientific authority and many years of activity for shaping the worldview of the younger generation, supporting scientific research, and strengthening academic traditions.
During the ceremony, the decision of the University Academic Council to confer the title of Honorary Doctor on Anatoliy Zahorodniy was announced. The corresponding diploma and academic gown were presented to him by the university rector.
In his speech, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Anatoliy Zahorodniy thanked the university community for the high honor and emphasized the special importance of the unity of science and education in the face of modern challenges. He also stressed the need to support young scientists, develop interdisciplinary cooperation, expand student participation in research projects and international initiatives, as well as further integrate Ukrainian science into the global research space.
Leading Ukrainian scientists addressed the newly elected Honorary Doctor with congratulatory remarks, noting Anatoliy Zahorodniy's significant contribution to the development of domestic science, his authority in the international scientific community, and his role in strengthening Ukraine's scientific potential.
The solemn atmosphere of the ceremony was complemented by musical greetings performed by the university chamber orchestra under the direction of the dean of the Anatoliy Avdiyevsky Faculty of Arts, Vasyl Fedoryshyn, and the Academic Chamber Choir "Khreschatyk".
