European early printed books with memories and impressions of Ukraine of the 17th–18th centuries are digitized and made accessible for public.

17.07.2026

The large digital collection of full-text copies of valuable book monuments of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine has been supplemented by seven volumes of three editions of early printed books, which were ceremoniously donated in June to the book stock of the Department of Early Printed Books and Rare Editions of the Library by the "Ukraine WOW" NGO and the Visa company (it should be recalled that the books were specially purchased for the interactive exhibition project "Ukraine WOW", which lasted from September 2025 to January 2026). These are two volumes of "History of Charles XII" by the philosopher, writer, encyclopedist Voltaire (Basel, 1731), "A Discourse of the Origin, Countrey, Manners, Government, and Religion of the Cossacks, with another of the Precopian Tatars" by the French diplomat and military figure Pierre Chevalier (London, 1672), and "Travels through... Russia, the Ukraine, and Poland" by the English traveler Joseph Marshall in four volumes (London, 1772–1776). These editions are unique for their early mentions of Ukraine and the impressions of travelers, diplomats, and political figures.

From now on, their full-text electronic copies can be freely accessed on the website of the V.I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine – via the links provided below.
