On June 5, 2026, the Educational and Scientific Institute of Energy, Automation, and Energy Saving of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, the General Energy Institute of the NAS of Ukraine, the Institute of Renewable Energy of the NAS of Ukraine, the Institute of Electrodynamics of the NAS of Ukraine, and the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics of the NAS of Ukraine jointly held the 4th International Scientific and Practical Conference "Digital Technologies in Energy and Automation." This format confirmed the importance of combining university science, academic research, and international experience in order to solve current problems in modern energy, automation, energy efficiency, and digital transformation.
Leading Ukrainian and foreign scientists participated in the plenary session. In particular, specialists from Canada, Poland, and Bulgaria presented reports.
Vitaly Babak, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine, Director of the General Energy Institute of the NAS of Ukraine, delivered a report entitled “Problems of the Unified Energy System of Ukraine and the formation of a new type of energy”.
Borys Basok, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, Director of the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics of the NAS of Ukraine, reported on "Application of radiation heat transfer for thermal masking of heated objects".
The report of Oleksiy Zuryan, DSc in Engineering, Deputy Director for Science of the Institute of Renewable Energy of the NAS of Ukraine, concerned "Digital tools for assessing the potential of renewable energy and green hydrogen: from resource analysis to investment planning".
The reports of representatives from the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine were also comprehensive.
After the plenary session, the conference worked within seven thematic sections.
At Section 1 "Digital Energy and Polygeneration Systems", issues of modeling autonomous hybrid energy networks with renewable energy sources, optimization of power flow distribution in regional energy systems, reliability assessment of distribution networks, forecasting wind and solar energy generation, as well as the creation of monitoring and control systems for electricity consumption in micro-energy systems were discussed.
Section 2 "Energy Informatics" was dedicated to information and analytical methods in energy, adaptive control of battery charging, assessment of climate and military risks to Ukraine's energy system, analysis of the state of lithium-ion batteries, electricity consumption forecasting, digital tools for monitoring energy equipment, and methods of optimal power flow distribution.
Section 3 "Automation Systems and Artificial Intelligence" considered modern approaches to the automation of technological processes, the use of artificial intelligence, neural networks, computer vision, ontological decision support systems, automated control of biogas complexes, agricultural drones, greenhouses and energy information and management systems. Significant attention was paid to cybersecurity, data quality and the practical implementation of digital solutions in production and agricultural systems.
Section 4 "Energy Efficiency Management of Electrotechnological Complexes" focused the attention of conference participants on forecasting photovoltaic power using large language models, the Internet of Things for forecasting solar and wind energy production, smart metering (i.e., automated data collection systems for utility usage – electricity, gas, water, heat consumption), microgrid energy efficiency, power quality, electrical technologies in agricultural production, and electric drives.
Thematic Section 5 "Thermal Energy Innovations" covered heat transfer, heat pumps, energy-efficient buildings, biomass, biogas, biofuels, ventilation, cogeneration plants, drying processes, CFD modeling of heat exchange equipment, and thermal engineering solutions for the restoration of energy infrastructure.
At Section 6 "Theory and Practice of Teaching Basic Disciplines for Engineering Specialties", participants discussed the modernization of teaching physics, higher mathematics, and engineering disciplines, the application of STEM approaches, the Python programming language, computer algebra, artificial intelligence, remote laboratory work, and digital measuring systems in training future engineers.
Section 7 "Modern Research by Young Scientists" brought together reports from undergraduates, postgraduates, and young scientists. Participants presented research results on energy efficiency of alternative water supply technologies, microgrids, lithium-ionstorage batteries, vertical-axis wind turbines, cogeneration plants, adaptive relay protection, renewable generation forecasting, electric drives, biogas complexes, and digital energy management systems.
Thematic content of the presented reports confirmed that digital technologies, artificial intelligence, energy informatics, renewable energy, energy-efficient buildings, bioenergy, and innovative electro-technological complexes are key focus areas of the development of modern energy in Ukraine and its (modern Ukrainian energy’s) integration into the European scientific and technological space.
