Academy scientists held a seminar dedicated to library AI innovations

On May 26, 2026, as part of the professional development of librarians, scientists from the Department of Scientific and Methodological Work Institute of Library Science of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine held a thematic scientific and methodological seminar «Innovations in Library Practice Based on Artificial Intelligence», where the practical experience of Ukrainian libraries in using artificial intelligence tools to serve users was highlighted. The event was held in a hybrid format – online (on the Zoom platform) and offline (in the Meeting Hall of the Library’s Academic Council). About 400 participants from all corners of Ukraine joined – from Uzhhorod to Dnipro, from Chernihiv to Mykolaiv. The meeting was moderated by the head of the Department of Scientific and Methodological Work Institute of Library Science of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, member of the Information and Library Council of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Candidate of Social Communications, Senior Researcher Olena Sokur and head of the Department of Scientific Publications of the Institute of Library Science of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Oksana Klymenko.

Opening the event, Candidate of Social Communications Olena Sokur noted that the seminar topic is extremely relevant in light of the global digitalization of Ukrainian society. According to her, Ukrainian libraries have already accumulated some experience in using artificial intelligence tools in everyday practice.

The audience was interested in the presentation by the leading translator of the Organizational Department of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine Vladyslav Dem’yanyuk “Using Artificial Intelligence Tools in Preparing a Presentation Report”, which presented a methodology for preparing a foreign language presentation using AI-based tools and services.

The report “Creating a Book Trailer for an Electronic Library Exhibition Using Artificial Intelligence (from the experience of the Department of Comprehensive Library Services of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine)” was presented by specialists from the Department of Comprehensive Library Services of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine – chief librarians Roksana Krutova and Yana Muzychenko, researcher Lesya Turovska, and head of the department Inesa Smolyar.

The head of the Scientific and Technical Library of the E. O. Paton Institute of Electric Welding of the NAS of Ukraine Svitlana Ivanenko in her presentation “Using Artificial Intelligence Tools in the Work of the Scientific and Technical Library of the E. O. Paton Institute of Electric Welding of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine” shared the experience of using AI in preparing materials for publication on social networks and the official website of this scientific institution.
