On March 16, 2026, a meeting took place at the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine between the President of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician Anatoliy Zahorodniy, and the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Brigadier General Andriy Lebedenko.
The meeting was also attended by the First Vice-President of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician Vyacheslav Bohdanov, Vice-President of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician Volodymyr Horbulin, and Acting Chief Scientific Secretary of the NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Philosophy Oleh Kubalskyi.
During the conversation, the parties discussed cooperation between the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in particular the possibilities of using the Academy’s scientific developments to strengthen the country’s defense capability, as well as the participation of NAS of Ukraine institutions in conducting research and development aimed at the needs of the security and defense sector.
Specifically, they talked about the development of technologies in the fields of materials science, new structural materials, electronics, communication systems, information technologies, and other areas that can be used to enhance the technological capabilities of the Ukrainian military.
As a token of gratitude for supporting scientific initiatives and promoting cooperation between the scientific community and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the President of the NAS of Ukraine presented Andriy Lebedenko with the NAS of Ukraine award "For Promoting the Development of Science."
The meeting confirmed the importance of close interaction between the scientific community and the defense sector in ensuring Ukraine’s technological capability during wartime.
