On the birthday of the outstanding Ukrainian poet Lina Kostenko, the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Anatoliy Zahorodniy, presented her with the diploma of Honorary Doctor of the NAS of Ukraine.
The award was given "for a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian literature, an unbreakable civic position, and the affirmation of the national dignity of the Ukrainian people."
Congratulating Lina Vasylivna, Anatoliy Zahorodniy emphasized: "You, dear Lina Vasylivna, have courageously, dignifiedly, and nobly followed the chosen path, the name of which is Ukrainian Culture, maintaining a proud posture and not bowing under the relentless winds of communist party pressure and deceptive conjuncture, tirelessly working in the 'conditions of blocked culture.' Few can compare with you in the balance of words, consistency of civic position, and state-building foresight – as well as in firmness and strength of character."
During a brief conversation, Lina Kostenko inquired about the current state of affairs in the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, particularly the situation in the humanitarian sphere.
Anatoliy Zahorodniy, in turn, noted that her lecture "The Humanitarian Aura of the Nation or the Defect of the Main Mirror," delivered in 1998 at the National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy," remains relevant today.
The diploma presentation was also attended by the director of the T. H. Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the NAS of Ukraine, advisor to the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine, academician of the NAS of Ukraine Mykola Zhulynskyi.
According to the Department of Literature, Language, and Art Studies of the NAS of Ukraine
