Oleh Sapuzhak, PhD in Physics and Mathematics, Director of the Carpathian Branch of the S.I. Subbotin Institute of Geophysics of the NAS of Ukraine, briefly spoke about the history of the institution, its structure, personnel potential, material and technical base, main areas of work and results of scientific activity in recent years. He noted that, despite the difficult conditions of wartime, it was possible to preserve scientific personnel and continue fundamental and applied research. Oleh Sapuzhak presented the results of theoretical and experimental studies of seismicity and geodynamics of Western Ukraine, adjacent areas of neighboring countries, other seismically active regions of the world (Canada, Japan), and studies of the seismicity of Mars in cooperation with international teams. He noted the important place of scientists of the Carpathian Branch of the S.I. Subbotin Institute of Geophysics of the NAS of Ukraine in the study of magnetic and gravitational fields in Western Ukraine, tectonomagnetic observations of geodynamics and seismotectonic regime of the Antarctic Peninsula in the area of the Ukrainian Antarctic Station "Akademik Vernadsky".The speaker paid special attention to applied work in order to ensure the operation of critical infrastructure under martial law (Ukrzaliznytsia, Lvivvodokanal) and to oil and gas exploration research: geomagnetic surveys, geoelectrical exploration, forecasting of oil and gas content across various sections of wells. He presented interesting and important results of engineering geophysical and archaeogeophysical research at various sites.

Subbotin Institute of Geophysics of the NAS of Ukraine, in his speech, focused on using the results of fundamental research as a basis for solving important applied problems, citing as an example the use of accurate modern geomagnetic data for military tasks.

Summing up the meeting, Anatoly Zagorodny, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine, President of the NAS of Ukraine, noted the significant fundamental and applied achievements of the Carpathian Branch of the S.I. Subbotin Institute of Geophysics of the NAS of Ukraine and the special importance of the application and implementation of geophysical work methods developed at the institution for solving urgent problems at the regional, state and international levels regarding ensuring the activities of enterprises and critical infrastructure under martial law conditions. At the same time, the head of the Academy emphasized the importance of further strengthening the institution's human resources potential and attracting young researchers, developing the research base, expanding contractual topics and international cooperation, and winning international grants.
