April 7, 2026 delegation led by the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, academician of NAS Ukraine Anatoliy Zahorodniy and including the first vice-president of NAS Ukraine, head of the Section of Physical-Technical and Mathematical Sciences, academician of NAS Ukraine Vyacheslav Bohdanov, academic secretary of the Department of Informatics of NAS Ukraine, academician of NAS Ukraine Oleksandr Khimich, scientific secretary of the Section of Physical-Technical and Mathematical Sciences of NAS Ukraine, Doctor of Technical Sciences Serhiy Bespalov and scientific secretary of the Department of Informatics of NAS Ukraine, Candidate of Historical Sciences Olga Horokhovatska made a working visit to the Institute of Software Systems of NAS Ukraine.
The Institute is a scientific institution that holds leading positions in solving general problems of science and technology development in the field of programming to support the innovative potential of Ukraine.
The main tasks of the Institute in the current complex conditions of wartime are:
- conducting fundamental and applied research in the field of programming and software engineering;
- solving applied tasks to enhance Ukraine's defense capability;
- promoting post-war recovery through information technologies;
- supporting the information infrastructure of NAS Ukraine.
The Director of the Institute, Corresponding Member of NAS Ukraine Ihor Sinitsyn, informed the delegation members about the institution's activities, its structure, personnel potential, and main research directions, emphasizing key achievements in scientific, expert, and publication fields, cooperation of scientists with government authorities, and work with young scientists.
Significant attention during the visit was given to the scientific laboratory of the Institute, which is intended to continue work on the systems "RESURS," "LOGISTIK," "POKROVA," as well as active protection systems using artificial intelligence, some of which have already been developed within the framework of the defense research program of NAS Ukraine and demonstrated in the defense innovations laboratory.
During the visit, it was emphasized that constant interaction is established and maintained between the institution’s scientists and the Government Computer Emergency Response Team of Ukraine, which operates within the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine (CERT-UA, Computer Emergency Response Team of Ukraine), and the Situational Center for Cybersecurity Support regarding the detection and neutralization of targeted cyberattacks.
The guests were presented with software systems supporting the protection of the State Border of Ukraine, which is another traditional brand of the Institute. The Deputy Director for Innovative Technologies of the Institute, Candidate of Technical Sciences Yuriy Novikov, spoke about the research and practical achievements of the institution's specialists. These include:
- "Hart" – an integrated information and telecommunication system of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine;
- "Arkan" – an integrated interagency information and telecommunication system for monitoring persons, vehicles, and cargo crossing the state border of Ukraine;
- "Visa" – an information and telecommunication system for processing and issuing visas to foreigners and stateless persons for entry into Ukraine and transit through its territory.
It was emphasized that national biometric systems and the implementation of the e-border system are gaining wide recognition in the European community.
During the meeting, representatives of the Institute of Software Systems of NAS Ukraine stressed that the main principle of the Institute’s personnel policy is rejuvenation while unequivocally preserving traditional directions of cybernetic science and consistently tracking and utilizing modern technological solutions and directions of effective development.
Summing up the visit, the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, academician of NAS Ukraine Anatoliy Zahorodniy, positively assessed the activities of the Institute of Software Systems of NAS Ukraine, thanked the institution’s scientists for their fruitful work, significant scientific achievements, and active position both within the Academy and beyond.
