On June 10–12, 2026, the I. Krypiakevych Institute of Ukrainian Studies of the NAS of Ukraine celebrated its 75th anniversary. On this occasion, several scientific and ceremonial events were held, the scholars honored the memory of Academician Ivan Krypiakevych, one of the founders and directors of the Institute, whose name it bears, as well as Yaroslav Isayevych, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine, the long-time head of the institution.
Ihor Solyar, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, Director of the Institute, opened the solemn academy on the occasion of the anniversary; he outlined the main milestones of the institution's activities and the prospects for its development in modern conditions, emphasizing that the history of the Institute is 75 years of work aimed at preserving, understanding and popularizing Ukrainian history, culture and national memory.
Olena Kondratyuk, the Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Andriy Sadovyi, the Mayor of Lviv, Sviatoslav Sheremeta, the Head of the Lviv Regional Council Commission on Culture, Roman Kushnir, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine, the Head of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, Oleh Zynyuk, Director of the Western Scientific Center delivered welcoming remarks. Anatoly Zagorodny, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine, President of the NAS of Ukraine, and Valeriy Smoliy, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine, Acting Academician-Secretary of the Department of History, Philosophy and Law of the NAS of Ukraine, joined the celebration. Roman Hladyshevsky, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine, rector of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Vasyl Fershtey, director of the V. Stefanyk Lviv National Scientific Library of Ukraine, Tomasz Pudłocki, professor of the Department of Cultural History, Auxiliary Sciences and Archival Studies of the Jagiellonian University as well as colleagues from scientific institutions of the NAS of Ukraine and higher education institutions, expressed their support and commitment to the Institute.
A pleasant part of the celebration was the awarding of Institute employees with certificates, letters of appreciation, and valuable gifts for many years of scientific activity, significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian studies, and the preservation of national historical and cultural heritage from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Lviv Regional Council, Lviv City Council, Western Scientific Center, and the Shevchenko Scientific Society.
The ceremonial academy concluded with an inspired performance by the “Cheremosh” ensemble of еру Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.
On the occasion of the Institute’s anniversary, a collective monograph titled “I. Krypiakevych Institute of Ukrainian Studies of the NAS of Ukraine – 75” was published (editor-in-chief Ihor Solyar; editors: Nataliia Halevych, Oksana Rak). The publication represents the history of the institution since 1951 and the history of scientific departments; it contains scientific CV and bibliographies of employees for 2011–2025, highlights the activities of the PhD program, the specialized council, the council of young scientists, publishing activity, etc. The book is adorned with numerous archival photographs, many of which are published for the first time.
The next event on the occasion of the Institute's anniversary was the All-Ukrainian Scientific Conference "Ivan Krypiakevych and His Time", which took place on June 11, 2026.
The plenary session was devoted to the multifaceted activities of Ivan Krypiakevych as a scholar, organizer of science, and educator. The participants considered his role in the Shevchenko Scientific Society (Andriy Felonyuk), his relationship with Yaroslav Isayevych (Roman Holyk), his contribution to the development of historical science and his activities at the Ukrainian Secret University (Leonid Zashkilnyak), and the involvement of Galician youth in historical science using the example of Ivan Krypiakevych and his social circle (Nataliia Mysak). During the sectional sessions, various aspects of the academician’s scientific heritage were highlighted: issues of military history in his works, educational activities, participation in the formation of academic humanities in Lviv, the scholar’s family and intellectual environment, as well as new archival materials and studies dedicated to his life and work.
On June 12, 2026, the 13th Academician Yaroslav Isayevych Scientific Readings were held, dedicated to the understanding of the scientific heritage of prominent representatives of the Lviv academic school of historical and philological science. A number of reports were dedicated to prominent representatives of the Lviv linguistic school, whose memorable anniversaries we shall celebrate this year.
Pavlo Hrytsenko, DSc in Philology, Director of the Institute of Ukrainian Language of the NAS of Ukraine, raised the issue of the formation of Ukrainian linguistics in the conditions of Soviet reality in his report "The Revival of Lviv Academic Linguistics in the Postwar Decades: Steps Against the Current"; he outlined the role of Lviv scientists in the preservation and development of national scientific traditions. In the course of the plenary session, the participants addressed the figures of Ilarion Svientsitsky (Yuriy Osinchuk, Olha Soroka), Lukiia Humetska (Hanna Voytiv), Lidiia Kots-Hryhorchuk (Nataliia Bahniuk, Oksana Kostiv), Yaroslava Zakrevska (Tetiana Yastremska), and Yaroslav Isayevtch as a scientist, science facilitator, and mentor of young researchers (Ostap Sereda, Roman Holyk), emphasizing their contribution to the development of Ukrainian linguistics, dialectology, Slavic studies, and historical science.
The sectional sessions covered a wide range of problems of Ukrainian history, medieval studies, Ukrainian-Polish relations, historical lexicology, dialectology, and folklore studies. A significant block of reports concerned the scientific heritage of Yaroslav Isayevych and various aspects of his research and organizational activities. The presentations demonstrated the interdisciplinary nature of modern humanities studies and the importance of further studying the historical and cultural heritage of Ukraine.
The participants at the readings emphasized the significant importance of the scientific achievements of Ukrainian historians and linguists for the development of modern humanities and noted the need to expand interdisciplinary cooperation.
