Olena Pareniuk, PhD in Biology, Senior Researcher at the Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plant of the NAS of Ukraine talked about her experience working in Chornobyl in an interview for «The Ukrainians Media».
As a radiobiologist, Olena studies soil bacteria in the Chernobyl exclusion zone and researches how we must protect the body against radiation effects. As the prioritization coordinator of the Demine Ukraine national demining initiative, she determines which territories should be cleared of mines first. In addition, the researcher specializes in large-scale risks. After the start of the large-scale war, Olena Pareniuk initiated a program where, together with other scientists working on nuclear risks, she developed event scenarios for European nuclear power plants in conditions of armed conflict..
