Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Khrystyna Hnatenko – about quantum physics, teleportation, and computers of the future

Quantum physics is one of the branches of science that today determines the development of future technologies: from ultra-fast computing and new materials to secure communication systems and modeling of complex processes. Ukrainian researchers are also working on these directions.

In an interview with "Ukrainian Truth. Life," Professor of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Kristina Hnatenko spoke about the current state of quantum research, the prospects of quantum computers, fundamental questions of time, space, and quantum gravity.

According to the scientist, quantum computers and quantum programming are rapidly developing worldwide. If a few years ago processors with 127 qubits were discussed, today there are already systems with over a thousand qubits. At the same time, the key problem remains the errors in quantum computations, which researchers are actively working to reduce.

Kristina Hnatenko is engaged in the development and verification of quantum algorithms, the study of the properties of quantum states, and also works on issues of the theory of quantized space and quantum gravity—a direction aimed at uniting quantum mechanics and the theory of gravity.

A separate direction of her work is the use of quantum computing for the analysis of complex networks and systems, including logistical and social ones. Such algorithms potentially can significantly accelerate the solution of optimization tasks, modeling, and processing of large data sets.

The conversation also touches on quantum teleportation, superposition, particle entanglement, and other phenomena that until recently seemed purely fantastic. The scientist emphasizes: many of these already have experimental confirmations or practical implementations, although humanity is still only approaching the everyday use of quantum technologies.

In addition to fundamental research, Kristina Hnatenko combines science and art—creating so-called quantum music, based on quantum algorithms and mathematical models.
