Tree peony is a shrub plant that was cultivated, according to various sources, one or two thousand years ago in China (where, by the way, it "escaped" from cultivation and now grows in many natural phytocenoses). It came to Europe at the end of the 18th century and has long been a favorite not only among gardeners. More than a hundred of its bushes grow in the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden of the NAS of Ukraine – in the horse chestnut glade and in the Syringaria (Lilac Garden). Tree peony withstands Kyiv frosts excellently and begins vegetation even before the snow melts. It bears fruit as abundantly as it blooms.
