How to turn fundamental research into technologies for industry, why a modern scientist must be adaptive, and what role startups and technology transfer can play in the development of the Ukrainian innovative economy – these topics were discussed by the guests of the podcast "InnoTour: How Innovative Business is Tempered."
The conversation focused on the interaction of science, technology, and the commercial sector in the field of physics and materials science, as well as the search for effective models of cooperation between academic institutions and business.
The guests of the podcast were research associate at the Institute of Physics of the NAS of Ukraine, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Hryhoriy Monastyrskyi and head of the Department of International Relations and Technology Transfer at the I. M. Frantsevich Institute for Problems of Materials Science of the NAS of Ukraine, leading research associate of the Department of Surface Engineering and Protective Coatings, lecturer at the Kyiv Academic University, Doctor of Technical Sciences Maryna Storozhenko.
Maryna Storozhenko spoke about her work in the field of international cooperation and technology transfer, in particular about assisting Ukrainian scientific teams in finding partners, integrating into international research projects, and establishing contacts with industry to implement scientific developments into production.
She paid special attention to the topic of youth startups and the commercialization of scientific ideas. According to the scientist, such initiatives can become an important factor in the development of Ukraine's innovative economy.
Hryhoriy Monastyrskyi, who combines work in academic science and high-tech business, emphasized that science and commerce are not opposing spheres. In his opinion, modern scientists essentially work in the market of knowledge and technologies, offering expertise, engineering solutions, equipment, and research results.
The conversation also covered the development of R&D centers, opportunities for students and graduate students to work in knowledge-intensive business while still studying, as well as the need for more active integration of Ukrainian science into the international innovation space.
At the end of the discussion, the participants emphasized the importance of a broad outlook and the ability to quickly adapt to technological changes. The speakers are convinced that flexibility and a willingness to constantly acquire new knowledge are today among the key conditions for successful work both in science and in innovative business.
