These days, thousands of Ukrainian graduates have received the results of the National Multidisciplinary Test (NMT) and face one of the most important choices in life — which profession to choose and what field to connect their future with. Among the most popular fields traditionally remain IT, law, management, marketing, international relations. However, physics — a science without which there would be no smartphones, no internet, no modern medicine, no space technologies — is increasingly rarely among the priorities of applicants. Why has this happened? Why, in the era of artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, and unprecedented scientific discoveries, do young people increasingly rarely choose fundamental science? Has physics really lost its relevance, or perhaps we have simply stopped noticing how deeply it is present in our lives? The new episode of the program "About Science. Competently," which airs on the YouTube channel of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, discusses not only the future of physics but also the future of the country (because no state can be technologically successful without its own science, its own research, and people capable of asking questions to which the world has not yet found answers). The guest of the studio is Oleksandr Kordyuk, academician of the NAS of Ukraine, director of the Kyiv Academic University, one of the leading Ukrainian physicists, a researcher of the electronic structure and quantum properties of new materials, a person who has worked for many years at the forefront of world science. The author and host of the program is the vice president of the NAS of Ukraine, academician Volodymyr Seminozhenko.
