The Ukrainian scientific community appeals to the United Nations, to the governments of the world's leading countries and the public of all continents to help Ukraine to protect its independence and defend the country from the Russian aggression. The invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops is being carried out in a Nazi-like fashion and with a Nazi-like goal, i.e. the destruction of the Ukrainian state and the Ukrainian people. This large-scale military expansion is the continuation of Russia's war against Ukraine, now in its ninth year. By denying the right of the 40 million Ukrainian people to their state and its national identity, Russia is committing genocide against an entire nation which is similar to the Gestapo atrocities of World War II.
The world is horrified by the military crimes committed by the Russian military in the the suburbs of Kyiv; the mass murders and shootings, rapes and lootings, the massacres of civilians in Bucha and Irpin, Borodyanka and Hostomel that have all evidence of the genocide of the Ukrainian people. No less tragic are the consequences of the Russian blockade of long-suffering Mariupol, where more than 20 thousand people were killed and tens of thousands of citizens were forcibly deported to Russia. The invaders are still using inhumane bans on water and food deliveries to the encircled city in order to starve its population to death. We call on the UN to achieve the immediate opening of a "green corridor" to save the thousands lives of civilians in Mariupol.
In full view of the whole world, the aggressor is using multiple rocket launchers, ballistic and cruise missiles to attack peaceful residential areas and critical infrastructure in the cities in the East of the country, namely in Avdiivka, Mariinka, Toretsk, Volnovakha, Kramatorsk, Izium, Kharkiv and other settlements. The unbearable military terror from constant shelling and rocket attacks was also experienced by the inhabitants of Zhytomyr region, Chernihiv region, Sumy region, Mykolayiv region, Odesa region, Poltava region and other regions of the country. The invaders inflicted irreparable damage to the monuments of spiritual and cultural heritage, among them, Yelets Dormition Monastery in Chernihiv, the Holy Assumption Cathedral in Kharkiv, the Catherine Church in Chernihiv, the Church of St. Anthony the Great in Kharkiv and other historical sites.
The Ukrainian armed forces in the first stage of the unequal fight against the aggressors managed to repel the enemy and drive them out of part of the temporarily occupied lands. However, the invaders regrouped and launched a new massive offensives in the East and South of the country. To stop the Russian invaders in Ukraine today means to protect entire Europe from their aggression tomorrow, to protect democracy and world civilization. Ukraine highly appreciates the political and military support of the governments and nations of the world, such as Poland, United States of America, Great Britain, Canada, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, France, Australia and many others. However, in order to prevent further Russian military expansion urgent and effective measures of international security structures are needed as well as their will and readiness to protect the basic humanitarian values and life on Earth by all available means.
To stop the Russian war in Ukraine today and to prevent it from escalating into World War ІІІ Ukraine needs further military assistance from the world's leading states, it needs powerful weapons and modern military technologies. Obviously, the fate of not only Ukraine which has become an outpost of confrontation between good and evil is being decided, but also the future of our entire continent.
Peoples of the world! Let us unite our efforts to stop the Russian military! Let us strive to "close the sky" over Ukraine from airstrikes and missiles!
Glory to the Ukrainian warriors defending peace in Europe and the world!
